SOURCE: gas gauge

The float that moves the gas hand is possibly stuck in the tank. If there's isn't an access hole in the rear of the vehicle you'll have to drop the tank. Unless it becomes free on it's own. Hope this is helpful. Please rate. Thanks

SOURCE: Fuel gauge goes to empty when I know there is still a 1/2 tank of fuel.

sounds like a faulty float on the fuel pump not sending the correct signal to the guage. if helpful please rate

SOURCE: i have a 2001 chevrolet suburban the gas gauge

The problem lies in the sending unit in the tank. It could have a wiring problem or the sending unit is bad.

Installed fuel pump and sending unit on 94 park avenue now fuel gauge doesn't work it was fine with old unit. Now it reads empty

Buick gas tanks are shaped so when full they take a while before the gauge comes off full. After 1/2 then the gauge will move towards empty quicker. When on an incline it will show more gas than is actually in the tank, so when you're cornering, it's reading will be indicating the moving level. I wouldn't worry about it

Gas gauge reading empty but gas is in tank

There is a sender unit failure. Likely it would need to be replaced.

If my gas gauge doesnt work can it just be a fuse

Doubt it.
The same fuse for the gauge would handle the rest of the cluster.
Probably the sending unit in the tank.

Gas Tank starts to overflow on empty? I tried all different nozzle positions. But the gasoline still backs up?

The rubber hose that runs from the gas cap down to the tank has a smaller hose inside it. The gas goes down inside the smaller hose and the air comes up around the small hose and vents at the gas cap. It sounds like one or both hoses have become crimped somewhere. I wonder if maybe you have hit something like a parking lot curb or had a really hard thump near the gas cap. Crawl under your car and look for the gas tank filler hose. I think you will find the hose bent or collapsed between the cap and the tank. Replacing the filler hose is not difficult but can be frustrating. You may have to lower the tank to get enough clearance to remove the old hose and install the new one. The other suggestion is to see if your gas gauge is working properly. Is it possible that the tank is full and the gauge shows empty? Let me know what you find out.

Have a 2001 gmc jimmy...drove home gas gauge read 1/4 tank..next day cranked over but wont start..gas gauge reads empty...put $10.00 from spare gas can..cranked over but no start ..gas gauge still reads...

chevy and gmc trucks have an on going problem with this, turn the key on,and get a rubber mallot or a hammer and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a couple of times, this will unstick something in the fuel pump/sending unit.

Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Shows a full

the problem is caused by a defective gas gauge sending unit, this part is located inside the gas tank, you must remove the gas tank to replace it.

the buffer plates in the tank seem to be loosely held! so sometimes they fall on the sender unit, causing the gauge to drop!!!!! when the vehicle is shaken!!!! remove that tank and have the plates checked!!!!
