Car over heating when stopped

Check all fuses. Check fluid level in rad when cold. If o/k start engine and let it warm up.Watch temp gauge to reach normal. If no temp gauge touch upper rad hose and wait for the hose to get warm. Keep runing engine and wait for electric fan to come on. If not, that is the problem. The electric cooling fan is not working due to the motor itself or power to it. When you are driving the outside air is moving accross the rad and keeps it cool. when you stop moving the job of moving air is transfered to the fan. Hope this helps. There is no easy fix. Could be motor,fan relay,temp sensor. Hope this helped Moe

Hi. the first test will be to open the hood and inspect the cooling fans. check to see if the fans are activating in intervals during the running cycle. if you don't see any fan rotation at all, this will confirm cooling fan failure and you will need to replace the fans or fan relay. Now, if the fans are running and the car is continuing to run hot when stopped, i would move to the next inspection point. the next problem spot will be a faulty water pump or faulty thermostat


If these two devices are malfunction in any way, it will cause the symptoms you are experiencing. at this point. the first thing is to make sure those fans are actually working.
