My top will not go down - 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

leave the key in the on position unhook the batery let set about 20-25mins hook it up start it hold the top buton to the down position til the top goes down

May be a faulty microswitch in the convertible top. Best to have the top operation scanned by a dealer or someone with access to a vagcom diagnostic tool.

more than likey you top position switch is bad .it is located behing the right rear window .its position tell the top module where the top is at . it connects to the ram cylinder as the ram moves up or down the contacts go bad .its a job to do you have to r&r rear seat,and seat back and right side panel so you can get to it

I believe you do this in this order. Roll windows down, release the latch at the top of the windshield, raise the front of the top, release rear cover by pulling the latch near the rear seat, Pull up the back of the top and then pull up on the rear cover. The back of the top should now fit into the opening under the rear cover. Continue to fold the top into this space. Push down on the rear cover to lock (won't be able to open trunk if not engaged.) To raise it, release rear latch cover, open rear cover and pull top out of opening. Raise rear of top so you are able to now close the rear cover, set rear of top down on cover and then pull fron of top down and engage the fraont latch. Hoe that helps.

I had the same car,when we put the top down we had to hold the botton for the top in the down posistion until the back windows were down.

Down
- undo zipper on one side about 12" just to take a little tension out
- undo latches
- top down 2"
- close latches (if you do not close them you are going to rip your top)
- top down all the way, if you see a little circle and it is not folding just right, stop mid way and give it a light karate chop movement to help it fold properly
*put the boot on for long drives, it will protect the top
*store the car with the top up, it keep the material nice and properly stretched

Up
- Windows down at least 75%
- Top up and when it gets about 2" from being closed stop and open latches
- Close rest of way, match up the pins and give it a little pull and snap the latches

TOP IS STUCK AND WILL NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN . WAS WORKING GOOD WHILE INSTALLING TOP BUT JUST SHUT DOWN 97 xk8

Hi as the car is still covered under warranty take it back to the dealer and get them to do it FOC,probably just a micro switch needs setting up .

Check your trunk luggage latch. If it is not in the right position, the top won't go down...

Try using the reset proceedure of simply turning the car on and use the all windows up and down switch on the driver side door. This is used when the battery is replaced. It might re-set your motor.
