Fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank access cover location. Here's the details:

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Open the rear access door.
  4. Release the catch for the back seat and tilt the seat out of the way.
  5. Move the carpet behind the seat that covers the fuel pump access panel.
  6. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connectors.
  7. Remove the screw securing the ground wire.
  8. Remove the four screws securing the fuel pump access panel and position it out of the way.
  9. Remove the hose clamps connecting the fuel hoses to the fuel pump.
  10. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel pump.
  11. Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
  12. Remove the eight retaining screws securing the sender assembly to the tank.
WARNING The fuel assembly is easily damaged. Use care when removing the assembly from the tank.
  13. While twisting and tilting, gradually lift the fuel sender assembly and remove from the tank.
  14. Wrap the fuel pump assembly in a rag before removing the assembly from the vehicle.
  15. Cover or seal the fuel tank until installing the fuel pump assembly.
  16. Remove the retaining hardware that holds the sender to the fuel pump assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the retaining hardware that holds the sender to the fuel pump assembly.
  2. Remove the temporary covering or seal that was used to protect the tank.
  3. Install the fuel pump into the access port on top of the fuel tank.
  4. Carefully, twist the fuel pump as necessary to properly position it in the fuel tank.
  5. Install the eight retaining screws securing the sender assembly to the tank.
  6. Connect the two fuel hoses to the pump and secure with clamps.
  7. Connect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
  8. Insert the ground wire and fuel pump electrical connector through the access hole and install the access cover.
  9. Connect the fuel pump electrical connector.
  10. Secure any loose wiring with adhesive tape and reattach the carpeting.
  11. Release the catch for the rear seat and put the rear seat in the normal position.
  12. Close the rear access door.
  13. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
I can help you further and show you where you can access the information for free. Good luck!

Landsend, you can comment on relieving fuel system pressure since you're the one that got rated? What's up with that?

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank...and is accessible from the top of the fuel tank.  On some cars you can remove the flooring on the rear of the car and find an access panel to get to the fuel tank.  Other cars you need to remove the straps that hold on the fuel tank.  Do the job when the tank is empty.  Good luck

SOURCE: how to release fuel pumps pressure properly before servicing

do it at the schrader valve pressure test port on the engine, the valve is located in the fuel supply rail to the injectors, looks like a tire valve.

2000 kia sportage car won't run untill you pour gas in the intake then it will till the gas is used up

Sounds like your not getting fuel. Turn key on and listen by gas tank and see if you hear a buzz sound. if you don't you'll need to replace the fuel pump.

Where is the schroeder valve on a 2000 kia sportage

Id start by looking on the INTAKE manifold for 4 fuel injectors. They are connected by a commone pipe or tube called a fuel rail. Its typically located at one end or the other of this fuel rail. Hope this helps.

My 2000 kia sportage is having fuel pump problems sometimes the fuel pump doesnt pump at all. ive checked the ground on the fuel pump, the fuse is good, and i dont know if theres a fuel cut off switch....

it sounds like the problem is the pump itself.you will probably have to have the pump replaced to correct the problem.this is how a bad pump acts when its worn out and needs replacing.replace the fuel filter at the same time
