Before you listen to friends about the head gasket have a compression test done to confirm the fact run fault codes again and fix all the systems revealed . Check for vacuum leaks from hoses to the vents and brakes.

SOURCE: ENGINE MISFIRE AND SHAKING

check your wire harness on the top of the engine. Volvo must have bought harnesses from Mercedes. The insulation just cracks and disintegrates, then the wires short. Not good for an ignition system.Once they short It can fry the circuit for that cylinder in the computer. Does not set a code other than Misfire.

After replacing the coil, plug and wire. The injector is working properly so I would say that you have a burnt exhaust valve. Get a cylinder leak down test or compression test to confirm this at a reputable mechanic.

What would cause my 01 acura cl 3.2 to shutter i changed coil packs and spark plugs and it still sounds like its missing

  1. Faulty fuel injector: A clogged or faulty fuel injector can cause insufficient fuel supply to the engine, resulting in a misfire.
  2. Ignition system problems: A faulty ignition coil, ignition control module, or distributor can cause a misfire in the engine.
  3. Vacuum leaks: A vacuum leak in the engine can cause an imbalance in the air-fuel mixture, leading to a misfire.
  4. Faulty EGR valve: A malfunctioning EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve can cause a misfire by altering the air-fuel mixture in the engine.
  5. Low compression: Low compression in one or more cylinders can cause a misfire.
To diagnose the specific cause of the misfire in your car, you should take it to a qualified mechanic who can perform a diagnostic test to pinpoint the issue. They may use a scan tool to check for any stored error codes in the car's computer or perform a cylinder compression test to check for any issues with the engine's compression. O

Can catalytic converter on 98 Pontiac grand prix cause misfire on cylinders in car

No, a plugged converter would cause the engine not to breathe properly. Too much back pressure would stall the engine or make it run very poorly. It would not be local to any one cylinder-all of them would be affected.

To diagnose a misfire in one cylinder, well, you start at that cylinder. It could be ignition related- the spark plug and spark plug wire for #6, possibly the ignition coil for #6 in the coil pack for the engine. (A v-6 would have 3 coils in the coil pack, one coil for 2 cylinders.) It could also be fuel related, so the fuel injector for cylinder 6 should be considered. And the last reason for a misfire is usually the most expensive repair: low compression in #6. This may be a head gasket problem, or a piston ring problem, or one of the valves for #6 may not be sealing well, causing low compression and the resultant misfire. The engine computer codes a misfire when it senses low power output from that particular cylinder. The misfire causes a lag in crankshaft rotation, and the crankshaft position sensor senses it.

99 pontiac grand prix that is still mis firing even after we changed plugs and wires, not sure what to do now please help

Misfires can be caused by several things including all the parts you have already replaced as well as faulty ignition coils, faulty injectors, vacuum leaks and engine mechanical problems such as low compression.
With the proper equipment, injector operation can be verified by performing injector balance tests, where the operation of the injectors in the misfiring cylinders is compared to the other cylinders that are not misfiring.
Also, engine mechanical failures such as bad piston rings or leaking/burnt valves can be diagnosed with a simple compression test.
An easy (and very inexpensive ) way to verify ignition coil operation is to swap the coil from the misfiring cylinder(s) with the coil(s) from the cylinder(s) that is(are) not misfiring. Then clear the fault codes and drive the vehicle. If the same cylinders are still misfiring, the coil is not the problem. If the misfire moves to the cylinder that you swapped with - replace the coil.
Sometimes, injectors can also be tested this way, but on most GM V-6 or V-8 engines, this is not practical due to the labor involved in "swapping" injectors.

02 sensor p0136 and cylinder misfire p0300

Most likely you do not have bad O2 sensor or coil sience you have P0300 code.
Check for vacuum leaks first , this is very common problem(vacuum leak) , lean mixture will cause misfire. I'm tallking about V6 engine , 4cyl have same problems but for misfire it may have bad coil (they under recall now).
Also check condition of air mass sensor , if it's dirty ,
buy air flow sensor cleaner and clean it according to user manual on the can.(air mass sensor can cause
O2 sensor code)
Check vacuum hose to fuel pressure regulator.
There are many more things to check , but that for mechanic shops after you try this.

Check engine light on car engine jumping and driving hard.

Go to an Autozone, Checker, Shucks, Kragen, O'Reilly, or a NAPA auto parts store and ask them to use their code reader to find out what the trouble codes are causing your check engine light to come on. They will do this for no charge. Report back here once you know what the codes are.
