We need more info, what codes? Year, make, model? And any symptoms. What usually happens is...the check eng light comes on, it gets ignored till a symptom presents itself. Then it's harder to figure out the root cause because there are ten codes in there, and the mechanic/technician makes his best guess at which came first...or tells you everything that's needed to fix it and you get a high bill!

? 2002 Forester with a P1443 trouble code

Being real careful and solenoid removed check that the ports are in position (flow or no flow) with some small wire connected to the cars battery you can place the solenoid in its opposite state checking ports again for change. Do this several times the results should be the same. remember the change this state several times and it only takes two failures to turn on the light.

My 99 volvo will not start

I found this site which should help you.

Bruce had similar problem and says this:

I know this is late, but I got the same code recently. I have a flaky MAF sensor cable connector that causes my fuel trims to gradually drift out of range - - - until I wiggle the cable connector and it gets better again for awhile. The bad connection is on the cable side of the connector and the connector does not look easily disassembleable. Anyway this code comes up once and awhile when the connection gets flaky.

-Bruce

The other person said use zipties to fix.

Another site I found is here which will help you if you get other common code on your OBDII .... cheers.. Deneen

OBD-II codes consist of a number of parts. Here is a sample OBD2 code:

P0171
Here is a breakdown of what each digit of the code means:
First Character - SystemThe first character identifies identifies the system related to the trouble code.

  • P = Powertrain
  • B = Body
  • C = Chassis
  • U = Undefined
Second Digit - Code TypeThe second digit identifies whether the code is a generic code (same on all OBD-II equpped vehicles), or a manufacturer specific code.
  • 0 = Generic (this is the digit zero -- not the letter "O")
  • 1 = Enhanced (manufacturer specific)
Third Digit - Sub-SystemThe third digit denotes the type of sub-system that pertains to the code
  • 1 = Emission Management (Fuel or Air)
  • 2 = Injector Circuit (Fuel or Air)
  • 3 = Ignition or Misfire
  • 4 = Emission Control
  • 5 = Vehicle Speed & Idle Control
  • 6 = Computer & Output Circuit
  • 7 = Transmission
  • 8 = Transmission
  • 9 = SAE Reserved
  • 0 = SAE Reserved
Fourth and Fifth DigitsThese digits, along with the others, are variable, and relate to a particular problem. For example,a P0171 code means P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1). To lookup your particular code, visit our OBD Trouble Codes section.
