1999 Dodge Durango transmission issue - first shaking and stalling while shifting, now won't shift out of second. Mechanic first stated that solenoids need to be replaced - cost $500-$700. Then - torgue converter needs to be replaced (no quote on cost), but no guarantee on how long it will last. Then says - tranny needs to be rebuilt (approx $3000) and not worth the investment. I've only paid a small assessment fee ($50) thus far so not out any huge money. Reading here - seems like there may be several options not yet pursued or cheaper. Is it too soon to call salvage yard?

SOURCE: transmission does not always shift into overdrive

Governor pressure sensor or solenoid is going bad. To replace them drop the tranny pan, remove the filter , and the parts are pretty ez to get to. These aren't cheep thou, but replace them as a set. Parts will probly run about $200.

SOURCE: Location of Shift Solenoid in 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer?

They are round "cans" with wires attached. You should have SSA, SSB, SSC, Torque converter and Pressure Control solenoids. They control pressures and have no mechanical linkage.

What will make my 05 Dodge Magnum shift the first to second then go into third and it hit reverse

There could be several reasons why your 2005 Dodge Magnum is experiencing problems with shifting from second to third gear and then suddenly hitting reverse, including:
  1. Transmission Fluid Level: Low transmission fluid level can cause erratic shifting, slipping, or stalling in your vehicle. Make sure to check your transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
  2. Shift Solenoid: A faulty shift solenoid can cause problems with shifting in your transmission. The solenoids control the flow of transmission fluid through the valve body, which controls the shifting of gears. If the shift solenoid is failing or has failed, it can cause the transmission to slip, shift erratically, or get stuck in a gear.
  3. Transmission Pump: The transmission pump is responsible for pumping transmission fluid through the transmission and to the torque converter. If the pump is failing, it may not be able to pump fluid properly, leading to problems with shifting and slippage.
  4. Valve Body: The valve body controls the flow of transmission fluid through the transmission and directs the shifting of gears. If the valve body is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
  5. Transmission Control Module (TCM): The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission's shifting and overall performance. If the TCM is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
It's best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the issue as they will have the necessary tools and expertise to properly diagnose and fix the issue.

most likely if this happened all of a sudden your gear shift cable is bad or had become detached if the shift er inside the truck feels very easy to move between gears it is the cable and the track has not showed signs of a bad transmission in the recent past see link Dodge Durango shift cable the easiest way to repair Kit includes...

Transmission wont shift into 3rd gear

this might be a simple problem with your gear linkage, your rubber bushes might be worn out, get them replaced... or your gearbox might have broken its synchronizer which actually shifts the gear in the gear box... i prefer u go see a mechanic

1999 DODGE DRANGO HAVEING PROBLEM SHIFTING OUT OF LOW GEAR AN SOMETIMES SLOW AOUT SHIFTING OUT OF 2ND TO 3RD IS THIS A COMPUTER PROBLEM

Hello,
There are several things that come to mind that commonly cause the issues you're having.

1. Make sure your transmission fluid level isn't low.
2. If your transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a long time, you could have some deposits
built up in the valve body, or the screening could be partially clogged.
3. You may have a faulty shift solenoid/shift motor.
4. In some cases the speed control module may be faulty.

I hope this helps you.
