if it was me and did not have any problems with the one i have now i would keep the one i have this is what i do before i change cars i get on www.autozone.com and checkout the price different to see if the new car is going to cost me more in parts like a alternator and i wish you the best Michigan Man.
if you have a bmw 325i 2001 model try this solution:
if you have one key , go on to the next step. if you have more than one key, like two or more than follow this procedure.
step one: unlock the doors with your key and get in and close the doors but do not lock them
step two: put your key into the ignition and turn it but not to start the engine, do this less than 5 seconds
step three: take the key out of the ignition and put it near the shifter. press and hold the unlock button while pressing the lock button 3 times. you have 30 seconds to do this. the doors should lock and unlock automatically signalling that it the key has been reprogrammed. if you have more than one key follow those steps for each one except for step one. remmember you have only 30 seconds for each key. that should help you.
