I did mine and had to remove part of the ducting and the center console but I did not have to remove the radio. I was able to work around it.

I have had this problem. behind the radio is a control box that actuates a damper door. in mine the gear was damaged. you need to pull the center counsel out. first remove the radio(special tool and care needed for this). The replacement was about 20 to 30 dollars cant remember the actual cost. the trick is getting the radio out. its was very easy to do myself. good luck

My 2004 ford explorer makes a clicking noise when selecting between cold and hot air. And the AC will not blow cold air / heater will not blow warm air.

it is the blend door, driver side by gas pedal, very hard to get to, the door has a rotery gear that when the teeth break off, thats when you get the clicking sound

The heater only blows hot air sometimes

it sounds like a bad blend door motor.these are controlled electrically and not with a cable like older vehicles did.

2005 ford explorer will only blow cold air no matter what ther thermostat is set at, and it makes a clicking noise when it is on, why is this....please help.

You may have a thermostat that is stuck closed.  If it doesn't open, hot coolant cannot reach the heater core, thereby blowing only cold air.
