SOURCE: wont shift out of reverse, but the shifter moves up and down freel

your linkage on the transmission must be off. try having someone move the shifter while you watch the linkage arms under the car on the trans to make sure its all intact. it could be a loose or broken bolt on the trans causing it to not disengage from reverse this will cause it to not start.

SOURCE: 2002 Chevrolet trailblazer LTZ won't

shift linkage is loose or interlock/trans range switch needs adjusting. The interlock is probably integrated at the shifter cable attach point on the side of the transmission. Sorry, but I don't have info to adjust the switch. Hopefully is only goes in one way and has just come loose.

A screw flew out of column when i went to put it into drive.

the screw fell out of shifter selector. look under the dash above brake.find metal bracket that has a screw it connects to the shift lever. to make it easy with your left hand move shifter you will see bracket move. it should have two screws in it.

Automatic not changing gears

check the shifter mechanism for binding up and not moving freely into positions. Not starting in park but in neutral indicates something is out of alignment with the shifter. May just need cleaning and a bit of oil/grease to fix.

Gear selector won't shift from park to reverse

Could be the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
That circuit would need to be tested.

Gear shift is locked in park on2008chevrolet impala LTZ Istopped the car put it in park with car running went to take it out of park and it will not come out of park tried moving steering wheel back and...

Check that the brake sensor is alright. Try putting a new one in at the pedal if you don't have a test light or continuity meter to test it. If the brake being applied is not being sensed by the computer, then it will not allow the shifter to unlock. Possible solenoid problem with shifter, as well, if the brake sensor checks out ok.

My 1999 Chevy Blazer wont go into park

secure vehicle with chocks and set parking brake under vehicle check on drivers side of transmission selector control look at cable for binding or damage the cable snaps into place if looks good remove cable and try to put selector shifter into park[ if it goes in and stays than look back under vehicle and try to match up selector and cable.not reaching and trans selector in park adjust cable and reconnect try shifter for park] -if shifter doesnt go into park than check on dash plastic selector lock may b worn or damaged, if above is fine and selector/shifter is not problem than problem is internal inside transmission park rod damaged or broke good luck and thanks for using fixya
