Question about Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

2011 Dodge Grand Caravan - On colder mornings, the car won't start. The security light won't stop blinking and the engine light comes on when I turn the key. If I leave the key in but not turned for a couple minutes then I can usually get it started in about 5 minutes. Occasionally the van loses all power while I'm driving. It takes a couple tries to get it started again. I think its all related but no codes come up so the dealership couldn't recreate the problem.

Check the condition of the key battery as it may be low in cold weather and not communicating properly with the immobiliser.. I suggest this because batteries generally fail more often in cold weather compared to warmer climates.

The relay that is located right usually in the middle of the fans is stuck open.Take that off and take it to the nearest parts store and they should have it in stock. Its kind of a common problem. That relay is designed to finish cooling off the car before they shut off and they'll run with the keys out.If the relay is bad they'll keep on running till the battery is dead..

SOURCE: '97 GMC Jimmy: engine turns over but car won't start, electrical?

Sounds like a bad ignition switch but could also be a bad connection to the ICP or just a plain old bad ICP (Instrument control panel). The ICP needs to be able to communicate with the ECM, Brake Control Module and the SDM (sensing and diagnostic module). If these can not "talk" to each other the vehicle will go into a lock out theft mode...assuming it has a factory VAT system. But I would bet on the ignition switch first...seen it many times.

More then likely this is all caused by a cool named car part called the clockspring. It is located in the steering column. The good news though, call a Dodge dealer, I believe this is an item/repair covered under recall/warrenty!

When you try to start it do the lights dim way low, have you been able to start it with a jump from another vehicle, unfortunately, chances are the starter needs to be replaced. How many miles does it have?

Blinking redlight over temp gauge on 2006 grand caravan sxt

This light warns of an overheated engine condition. If the engine is critically hot, a continuous chime will sound for 4 minutes. After the chime turns off, the engine will still be critically hot until the light turns off. does the symbol look like a thermometer? of so, that is what is is. If it's just a dot blinking, it's the security system. Does that help?
