Question about 1998 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

I got into a car accident and most of from the plastic piece from in between the spark plugs, the power steering pump pully, the radiator and the thing in front of the radiator the bumper cover and headlights got damaged. I have a manual and most of the replacement parts. I started to take it apart and got most of the damaged parts off and tried to keep most of the parts together but now have hard time putting it back together and have a learning disability and don't find that manual detailed enough for me is there any way I can get better instructions on how to put those back together? I have kinda a sense on the order but need some thing to give me reassurance that I am putting it back together again.

check the fuel pump relay! It sounds like it is one of your relays. If it was an electrical or sensor problem, the check engine light would be on.

The power steering is out and I can hear a pulley going bonkers. There is a squealing sound like a belt isn't catching, and also an oscillating sound like a pulley is loose and moving back and forth or...

i am having a similar problem. my power steering pully is loose. im pretty sure i have to replace the pump and the pully however my power steering still works but the belt squeals.check all the pullys they drive the belt or belts. its usually always either the tensioner thats the pully that allows you to remove the drive belt or the power steering pully which sucks the most because you must remove the entire power steering pump to replace the pully and since you have to go through all that trouble you might as well replace the entire power steering pump as well. i am not a mechanic so try and find more information.

My car stopped while driving and i discovered that the power steering pump belt is broken and whirled around the pully until it entered under the timing chain. what are the implication

The power-steering pump belt is just a piece of rubber and cotton.
Implications: No need to worry that much.
If you do not see any visible damage to the pulley or any other parts within the area, just replace the power-steering pump belt and go about your usual business.

Power steering fluid

you either have the wrong type of fluid in it or the pump is going out. to change pump take the right side\passenger side tire off and remove the plastic cover and get to work (youll need a pully puller to get the pully off the pump fyi)
