Hey Greg, there could be a few problems. Is it hard to change gears? Once you do change gears does the engine rev at least? If so this could be a problem with your transmission. Most common cases are that your transmission fluid is leaking. Usually transmission fluids are red so take a look underneath your car. Sometimes it could be a simple fix such as your transmission pan is not loose or just needs to be replaced. This is easy work and you can do it yourself. Pan may cost around $120. If it is leaking you need to stop changing gears as you will grinding the gears and that can cause some serious problems for you especially on your wallet. I hope this helps Greg. Give me a feedback if this does not work. Good luck man.

My stick Audi A6 Quatro had some gear slip when I shifted, then a lot of gear slip, and now the car doesn't move. I can shift into any gear without using the clutch. The RPMs go up, but car does

Your friction plate is kaput. Replace clutch system. Sounds like the pressure plate needs attention as well. No idea of price but get prices of "clutch kit" on the web and you can have an idea.

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.
