After removing the Hardtop, the softtop will not raise.
Checked the fluid level and it is fine. The top motor seems to run when pressing the button to lower the top, but no action when the button is pressed to raise the top. Could it be the relay on the convertible top motor? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Re: After removing the Hardtop, the softtop will not...
I'd check at switch itself first. If you can get a test light on wires at back of switch, you will get power at one, when switched one way, and should have power at another when switch other way.

There are lot of videos in this link. Opening and closing an electric or hydraulic hardtop is always going to be difficult because they are so heavy. I had a friend with and Xi5 and he had the soft top / hard top option and he had pulleys and a winch to lower the hardtop because it was only just manageable for 2 people to lift.
The best plan is to get it fixed for automatic operation.
check hydraulic fluid level in the hydralic motor pump behind left side trim panel in the trunk.look on side or end of the motor pump assembly.look for screw type check plug. first place rags under the check plug to catch fluid spill unscrew the check plug fluid level should be 1/4 inch bottom of check plug hole if low you need add correct level fluid. then screw in check plug back in place.to bleed air out hydralic system you need helper to hold switch while you raise and lower the top slowly by hand raise and lower top several times to remove air out hydralic system. see if your convertible top will open and close all the way.
"How do I get the air out of my hydraulic system"?
Remove the reservoir plug on the motor pump. Leave the plug out and do not put back until you have finished.
Fill the reservoir 3/4 full with fluid (to the bottom of filler plug hole). Put a rag under the hole to catch overflow that will occur as system fills.
Run the pump for 15-20 seconds. Stop. Check your fluid level and refill to bottom of filler hole. Continue running the motor in the same direction for an additional 15-20 seconds. When the top gets to the end of cycle, check your fluid level, fill to bottom of filler hole, and run the motor in the opposite direction.
You are literally running the top all the way up and down sereral times. Checking the fluid level as you go and fill as required, leaving reservoir 25% empty.
When you are no longer able to add fluid, put the top in the down position. Check the fluid level one last time, should be to bottom of filler hole. Put the plug into reservoir.

LISTEN FOR HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR OPERATION IN THE TRUNK AREA..IF YES YOU HEAR HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR RUNNING MAKING A NOISE.CHECK HYDRALIC PUMP FLUID LEVEL BY REMOVING THE SCREW TYPE CHECK PLUG.PLACE RAGS UNDER THE CHECK PLUG.AND UNSCREW REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG. FLUID SHOULD BE 1/4 INCH BELOW THE CHECK PLUG HOLE.IF FLUID IS LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL FLUID LEVEL 1/4 INCH FROM THE PLUG HOLE.IF HYDRALIC FLUID WAS WAY LOW YOU NEED TO BLEED AIR OUT OF THE SYSTEM.MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL CORRECT.START ENGINE AND TRY RAISING AND LOWER THE CONVERTIBLE TOP USING THE SWITCH.IF TOO MUCH AIR GOT IN SYSTEM.HAVE A HELPER WORK UP AND DOWN CONTROL SWITCH WHILE YOU MANUAL OPEN CLOSE CONVERTIBLE TOP BY HANDS BLEEDING AIR OUT OF SYSTEM.KEEP EYE ON HYDRALIC FLUID LEVEL WHILE BLEEDING THE SYSTEM..LOWER THE TOP AND TURN OFF ENGINE. BEFORE OPENING THE HYDRALIC PUMP FLUID CHECK PLUG BECAUSE FLUID WILL SPRAY EVERY WHERE..IF HYDRALIC PUMP CHECK OUT OKAY AND YOU DO NOT HEAR NO HYDRALIC PUMP NOISE.POWER IS GOING TO HYDRALIC PUMP.EITHER HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR FAULTY OR FAULTY HYDRALIC PUMP RELAY BEST TO LET MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT...
Had that happen to me before. Simply raise the hood and locate the plastic or rubber tube running to out put nozzle on hood. Disconnect and see if fluid shoots out. If it shoots out, simple take a needle of safety pin and clean out the nozzles located on the hood and should work. To clean the nozzle, you will have to lower the hood. If you want to you can do that before raising the hood. Oh by the way I assume you have verified that the reservoir is full.
remove the hose from the wiper arm and see if when you push the washer button that the fluid comes out the hose,if it does the sprayer nozzel is plugged if not replace the pupm

Removal and Installation NOTE: The cylinder rods should be in the fully-retracted position.
Remove pump and motor as outlined.
Remove the upper and lower hose fitting from the folding top hydraulic cylinder (50600) . Use absorbent rags or a container to catch any hydraulic fluid that leaks out when removing the fittings.
Remove each of the service cylinder plugs one at a time and attach the hose fittings.
NOTE: Be sure each fitting is installed in the correct position on the folding top hydraulic cylinder . NOTE: Make sure that the tetra seal is installed in the bottom of each of the folding top hydraulic cylinder ports before attaching the upper and lower hose fittings.
Connect the folding top hydraulic lift motor and plate kit (533A00) to a 12-volt power source and cycle the folding top hydraulic lift motor and plate kit in and out several times to purge the air from the hoses. Some noise squeal may be noticed due to the air.
Carefully remove the rubber fill plug from the back and the reservoir and check the fluid level. The level should be at the bottom of the filler hole. If necessary, add Synthetic Mercon® Multi-Purpose Automatic transmission fluid E6AZ-19582-B (ESR-M2C163-A2) or equivalent.
Have you checked the transmission fluid level? The car should be driven for 20 minutes or more, then with engine running vehicle in park, pull out dipstick, wipe clean, reinsert, check level. When the car doesn't go anywhere, do you let it idle for 5 mins before you drive? If yes, the fluid level could be low enough that 5 min idling warms it up just enough that the fluid is expanding and slightly raising the level just enough to operate. The fluid on the dipstick should be pink, if it's dark you should have it changed, along w/ the trans filter. Be careful of fast change shops, as some just shove a hose down the dipstick tube and suction some of the fluid out. This is NOT a fluid or filter change, just a small amount of fluid is removed. Hope it's just the fluid level, but keep checking on regular basis, as running w/ low fluid (or overfilled) can ruin a trans. countrycurt0
I solved my own problem by accident! I checked the hydraulic fluid under the spare tire and voila' the top started to work fine! It has worked perfectly now since July!
