SOURCE: 1998 Ford windstar horn wiring

There is something called a clock spring in the column that is used for the airbag, horn and cruise control buttons. This clock spring if messed with will cause a/bag light to come on and possibly cause a/bag failure if there is a collision. DON"T mess with the wiring in the column. Run new wires in to the horn or install an a/market horn.

SOURCE: air bag light on constant, horn not working,

you need to have the codes read for the air bag to know for sure which direction to start ,but yes, they are all tied in to the clock spring.

You have all the informations to find your problem. jump a wire on connector X4 G1 tan wire to ground and check X1 E5 with a test light or multimeter to see if there is a output, you should have 12 volts. If you dont have any voltage the horn relay is defective. I check in the shop manual and the relay come with the underhood fuse block.

Horn not working chevy tracker 2001

I'm not sure what your question or need is. The best that I can do is surmise that you want to know what to check or where to start. The first place to check is the fuse box. Inside the fuse box GM makes it easy to identify fuses and relays. Check for a blown horn fuse or a damaged horn relay. If the fuse and relay are fine then move to the engine compartment. have another person there to help you and a good test-light ready, in hand. Open the hood and connect your test-light to the negative battery terminal. locate the horn between the radiator and the front grill. Unplug the horn and test each terminal. this is where your friend will come in. While you touch the test-light to the terminals (one at a time) your helper will be sitting inside the car, holding the horn button in. If the light comes on then tell your helper to relax and you will disconnect your test-light from the negative terminal and reconnect it to the positive terminal. Now touch your test-light to the other terminal. If the light illuminates then you have confirmed that your horn is defective and needs to be replaced. If any of the above tests failed then further diagnostics will be needed. It could be suspected that wiring is damaged somewhere or something behind the horn button has failed. I hope this helps, good luck.

Horn dosen't work

Check fuse. Usually located under the Steering wheel or under the hood. You will have to use the other side of the cover to determine which fuse controls the horn and see if the metal link is broken. If both are not blown its probably a short in the wire. If it randomly just happened then its a good first guess without knowing any further details.

Usually I check all my fuses any time I am looking for a specific one. Sometimes a random fuse can be the cause, and not the actual Horn fuse that is blown.

I check the fuse and the horn is not working

Check in your owner's manual for the location of the horn relay. It will usually look like a small metal or plastic box that plugs into either the main fuse box or the high amp fuse box under the hood. If your horn fuse is good then most likely the horn relay needs replaced.

My 2005 Pontiac Sunfire horn stopped working. I've tried replacing the fuse, but that's not the problem. Any ideas?

Hello: It could be a failed horn. the best way to check is to get a test light and connect one end to the green wire at the horn connection and the other end to a good ground, have helper press horn. if test light lights up the horn has failed. also you might check the fuse box under the hood and see if there is a horn relay. if there is a horn relay then look to see if there another relay like it. if there is one swap the relays and see if the horn works.

My horn just stopped working on my 88 f-150. everything is still connected to the horn box under the hood. what else could be wrong with it?

Horns die like crazy on these. put power to the horn and make sure it works. The horn button is possible too the clockspring connection at the steering wheel. Find the wire in the harness under the colum that works the horn its black and it's on one end of the connector. with a test light hooked to ground, touch the wire and it should light dimly and the horn relay shough click. if it does the horn is likly or the fuse is blown two wires at the horn one shold be hot all the time and the other becomes grond pushing the horn button if thats good the horn is bad

1986 Chevy Caprice Classic Horn not working

Diagram should be on the inside of the fuse box or relay cluster lid/cover. If Test light has 1 wire and a sharp tip? Yes, but only if you push the horn button too ;-)

My guess is that the horn lost its ground, but you can check this with the light. The horn only beeps when both GROUND and Pos 12v are present. The horn button gives the relay 12v to close, and the relay gives the horn 12v to operate. The ground is always connected.

Connect tester clipwire to 12v source (battery, headlight (has to be on) and touch its tip to metal of car. Does it light? Good. the tester is working and the 12v is a good source.

Touch one of the 2 horn connection or wires (poke it thru the plastic - why tip is sharp). Does it light? Touch the other, does it?

If both light, (1 will be brighter) we can assume the horn coil is good and it is getting a good ground and I was wrong (it happens... but not often). The side that is BRIGHTER is the ground wire side.

Now have someone mash the horn button. Do you hear a tiny click? That is the horn relay. If not, look for the horn relay fuse and replace it. If you DID hear the click, the relay coil is good and is trying to switch 12v to drive the horn.

Now is time to locate and replace the horn fuse or the relay may have bad contacts. Look at the other relay part numbers in the cluster and see if there is a match for the horn one. Swap it out and try the horn.

Hope this all helps. To 'test' the horn, touch the dim side again anf listen for a scratching sound. That is the 12v going thru the tiny bulb in the tester (a resistance) and trying to drive the horn.

Good Luck!
