Must have a center bearing screw to allow release. If not is just nearby,on the top of a flat piece witch hide a spring. If not imay have just to fix a allen key in the middle and it can pull the bearing against a strong hidden spring.Use a small mirror to ispect.

This image shows a hidden spring in a closed case for sunfire(u can see the rotation sense and blocks).U need a front good key wich will help rotate the hole bearing against the inner cased round spring (to the right hand,to the left it will unscrew the hole assy)Cheers

SOURCE: I'm changing the altanator on

Loosen the tensioner for the accessory belt for the alternator and remove the belt. Remove the two long bolts that are holding the alternator in the bracket.
(Sometimes you have to remove the tensioner arm completely or just loosen it and it will slide over to relieve tension on belt)

Here ya go. The tensioner pulley should have a square hole (1/2" or 3/8") to accept a ratchet wrench for levering it enough to slip belt over. Some use a bolt to put a socket or wrench on for moving it about an inch to slip belt on.
Good luck.

Lookng for serpentine belt routing diagram for 1998 2.4 L sunfire

1998 Pontiac Sunfire Belt Routing Diagram

A drive belt routing diagram is needed when replacing a drive belt to help simplify the installation process. The problem arises as there are many different ways a drive belt can be configured. In this configuration the belt length will vary not allowing the belt to be installed. Also alternative configurations could turn a particular accessory the wrong direction, creating more problems. Always reinstall the drive belt in the exact configuration as the previous belt to prevent these problems. Always use high quality replacement products to avoid premature drive belt failure. If a multi rib drive belt fails it must be replaced immediately to avoid such situations such as engine overheating and loss of the power steering system. Whenever a belt replacement is required inspect the pulley condition to ensure there are no sharp edges on any of the pulleys, this will cause the belt to shred and fail. Confirm that all pulleys are free from debris such as small pebbles, these pebbles will cause the belt to pit and significantly impair the belt performance. The belt tensioner plays an important role to the drive belt performance, if this tensioner is weak it can allow the belt to lose tension allowing the belt to jump and skip. This condition will result in noises such as squeaking, chirping and ticking.

How do i loosen and remove the belt from my 95 pontiac sunfire

I beleive you need a 15 mm socket and a large rachet or breaker bar, find the belt tensioner position the socket and turn it away from the belt until it is loose enough to come out. Slowly release the pressure until the belt tensioner is fully relaxed.

Careful and good luck

The tension pulley will have a frame around it with a square hole in it for a ratchet to fit into it. Insert your ratchet and pull it untill the belt will slide on, them release the tensioner and make sure the belt is on correctly and all the way.
