I also need to get an exhaust manifold due to blue smoke is constantly coming out from the 1992 lincoln towncar and this is going to cost about $300.00 at least just to get that parts but does not include the labor. It has over 201,000 miles on it so I plan on keeping it due to being paid off but what should I do about the exhaust manifold issue?

Smoke diagnostic is by cmoke colour.

    bjg8 Oct 29, 2013

Blue means oil burned,is not the manifold but the pistons ring worn that usually will aloud oil to get in the piston cylinder and then burn.Best is to make a compresion test before,as replacing the exhaust is not the best choice, after all exhaust is just a tube.Very rare, happens that oil/fuel residuos in a manifold will mimic the simptoms.Cheers, hope u deal it.Share ur experience solution.

PS:Also very rare/not acounciliabile, motor oil/fuel/antismoke aditives will temporarly solve the issue, but can grow carbon deposit under the rings or ware the oil pump/other oil components in time and u will end up with a hard to rebuilt engine.

PS2Also,i do not advise but if compresion test failed and too pricey to replace rings,a motor flush with a thicker oil (like instead of 10w use of 15w..)in combination with smoke aditive can seal the rings for more miles. The effect is not imediate,it can take a while to seal the rings and restore engine performance, also is not the best choice.Make the test,u do not need to go to a shop if u have a mechanic body,it is simple test, ceck sparkplugs for moist/carbon/oil/colour diagnostic (if apply)..

I will apply the 15w with a smoke additive on the next available date to hopefully complete this process...

The dash relay switch is not going to cost that much but the labor by itself is going to be expensive due to removing the dash, replacing the relay switch, replacing the dash lights and it may end up being a complete rewiring issue because the ignition switch is causing problems now

We have now found it that the problem is either the brake pedal switch or cruise control switch so they will probably have to be replaced to get the tail lights back to working...

The tail light situation has been taken care of and we found out that it was a sensor chip that needed to be replaced because Crown Vic's, Lincoln's and other Ford vehicles have this same problem alot.

One of the tail light bulbs can be shorted internally.  Replace the tail light bulbs first.  Try this cheap fix first.

SOURCE: I have 1992 Lincoln Towncar. I can use the keyless

You probably have a bad hazard switch.

For the code,
1. Look on the deck lid arms for a small tag with the permanent code.
2. If you purchased new, call selling dealer to see if they have it recorded on the invoice.
3. Look in the glove box owner manual package for a credit card size plastic card with the code number.
4. Pay dealer 1/2 hour labor charge to retrieve the code with their diagnostic tool. Confirm price ahead of time.
5. Look on keyless entry module for the tag with the code.

For 1994 town car, module is behind glvoe box. Not sure for 1992, sinnce 94 was a new model design.

Door Lock Control Processor, Electronic Removal and Installation

  1. Drop glove compartment door. Refer to Section 01-05 .
  1. Remove nut on electronic door lock control processor (14B001) bracket assembly.
  1. Remove bracket assembly from RH cowl.
  1. Remove electronic door lock control processor from electronic door lock control processor bracket assembly (2 screws).
  1. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

The odds are the one fuse is blown for the dash and the tail lights. And the wrong bulb may have been put in for the brake light. The brake light is feeding back into the tail light circuit causing the fuse to blown out.

Change out the bulbs with OEM bulbs and replace the blown fuse. That should fix the problem.

These shops must be stupid did not one of them check your Main head light switch?

Ford was silly wihen they designed it Power goes to the head lamp switch, back through to the lights so the switch gets verryyy hot and being a 91 towncar the part is well past its life span to!

You should be able to get a replacement part cheap enough or go to local junk yard if you feel lucky!

1998 Lincoln Town Car: No turn signals, 4 way flash, brake lights

If only your brake light in middle of rear window works then your other bulbs are bad. If brake lights all work in the back than bulbs are good. If you put turn signal on right or left and the bulbs light in front and back then you need to change multifunction light control box under dash. My understanding is it cost $600 new. So I would try used.
