SOURCE: 1999 Mercury Radio don't turn on.

The radio in mine had/has this problem at times, usually more so after I had the heater on & the car had warmed up good.... If the above solution isn't any help try pulling the radio out of the dash and push/wiggle the wires leading into the "main" or larger wire bracket attatched to the driverside rear of the radio. I believe ( in mine ) that the purple w/striped one was it. I found that taking a small wedge of plastic cut from a zipp strip shoved into it after I gentally push the wire in till the radio came on holds it in place and for atleast a year now I've not had a problem.
As for the little button ... it's a removable face plate that pulls off the unit and there is a red LED that flashes when the car is turned off located inside a neon yellow and orange area to tell thieves that stealing it will do you no good unless you have the matching face plate. And yes if the face plate isn't seated in to it fully the radio will not work.

SOURCE: cigarette lighter won't work

The front lighter is powered by fuse 24 in the interior fuse panel and the console power points are fuse 7 and 9 in the battery junction box under hood.
If you have a 12V test lamp you can check the socket for power and check the wire to the socket. The socket may be bad.

Could be a fuse or two that blew out. Check fuse box and pull out fuses and inspect starting with the cig lighter fuse, horn fuse, cruise ctrl, and anything labeled as such.

Why doesn't car turn over or start?

Your battery is very low, enough to light the dash but not to start the engine. Get your self a volt meter that plugs into the cigarette lighter (any good auto store have them). You can now see the voltage of your battery. If it is less than 10 volts, then it will need to be charged/jump started. If the battery is good with 12 volts, then check the ground cable for a good contact to frame and check that the cables are secure on the battery.

Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

Cigarette lighter keeps blowing fuse

when the lighter is not pushed in does the fuse still blow? If not get a new plug in bit. Try some other plug in unit (GPS--dash cam--tyre compressor) or anything that uses a plug for the cigarette lighter and see it the fuse still blows.

1995 subaru cigarette lighter doesn't work

ok you are probably correct to think that you overloaded the plug and burned it out. I have seen decent replacement plugs at auto parts stores for about $10-15. Its a bit of a chore to remove some of the dash trim in that area but it can be done with some patients

The cigarette lighter not work

First and most simple, get a new cigarette lighter. Stores sell just the part that plugs into the dash. If that does not solve the problem, check the fuse box. If that is not the problem, you will have to tear apart the dash, usually just take out the radio and replace the entire cigarette lighter.

As long as you use a slow charg device, yes. Rapid charge devices will blow the fuse or at worst can cause a fire.

CIGAR LIGHTER WILL NOT CHARGE UNLESS ENGINE

Some cig lighter plugins are wired directly to battery, others are connected to ignition. You can always re-wire it straight to fuse or radio memory wire (Yellow) on cd deck or (Green/Black) from car wiring

Battery dead; cannot open hood

If the cigarette lighter is an unswitched power point you could use it as a location to put a very small charge, just enough to get the hood release solenoid to activate. Years ago there was a device that was a male cigarette lighter power point at both ends and enough cable to go from car to car. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT OPEN HOOD, DO NOT TURN KEY TO RUN OR ATTEMPT TO START. ANYTHING COULD RESULT. MINOR OR MAJOR. THERE IS A COMPUTER MEMORY SAVER THAT MATES A 9 VOLT TO A MALE CIGARETTE LIGHTER PLUG THIS MAY NOT BE ENOUGH TO RELEASE HOOD BUT MAYBE WITH A 12 VOLT FLASHLIGHT BATTERY (2 6 VOLT BATTERIES) WOULD WORK TO OPEN THE HOOD. (TURN EVERYTHING OFF EVEN DOME LIGHT.)
