SOURCE: rear main seal

THE REAR MAIN IS WHAT IS CALLED A FULL CIRCLE SEAL, SO YES THE TRANS AND FLYWHEEL MUST BE REMOVED, U WILL ALSO NEED THE SPECIAL FORD SEAL INSTALLER, WITHOUT IT THE SEAL WILL MOST LIKELY LEAK SOONER AFTER INSTALLATION.

SOURCE: leaking rear seal on a ED falcon auto transmission

They sell seal pullers for the engine, it may work for the tranny. Check around to make sure the seal comes out the back, and not forward thru the housing with the tailpiece off. I would have the back of the car way up so oil doesn't come out, maybe drain the oil first. If the seal is worn out, you know the rear sleeve bearing in the tranny might be worn out too. It will just leak again.

remove transmission. seal is behind drive plate (what in manual trans vehicles is called a flywheel. You really need a $25 service manual when you do this kind of repair yourself...most likely a 2 piece seal in that truck...depends on motor

SOURCE: possible leak from my rear main seal on 87 bronco 2

The valve cover gaskets are prone to leaks and bad ones at that. Cleans the entire engine and rive it to confirm the source of the leaks or leaks.. Remember the oil runs down hill and to the rear of the engine and gets all over from leaking valve cover gaskets.

SOURCE: 3,0L Ford ranger 91 want shift into over drive.did before I pulled trans to replace rear main seal in Truck.please help

Overdrive is engaged with a torque convert clutch lockup. ATF travels through the splined shaft on the transmission to the torque converter. Check the seals on the converter and the trans.

What are the steps in replacing the rear seal in a 1966 ford f-100 with a 352 engine?

I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't have to remove the engine/transmission, split the trans from the engine, remove the TC or clutch/pressure plate, (you should have drained engine oil and auto trans oil before doing this), remove the oil pan, remove the rear most main bearing cap, rotate a new seal into place, replace rear main bearing cap, torque, etc. and reassemble.

Worst case you may have to remove harmonic balancer and front timing chain cover, front seal, release all the connecting rod caps and main bearing caps, remove the crankshaft, replace the rear main seal and reassemble. It's a 1966 engine...you should consider replacing the front timing chain with a roller chain as well as rod and main bearing inserts if you have to do all this.

Cost replace rear main seal toyota camry

Four cylinder or V-6.

Both engines will require the removal of the timing belt to service the front crank seal. Both engines will also require the removal of the transmission to replace the rear main seal

either way way you would be looking at 3-4 hours for the front seal and 5 to 6 hours for the rear seal.

2000 sierra 5 spd removal

Do you mean flywheel removal? A flex plate is the toothed gear that bolts up to a torque converter on a vehicle with an automatic trans. If you mean a flywheel, which is what a clutch bolts up to, then yes it is highly recommended to remove it and have it surfaced when doing a clutch job. And since you are there anyway I would also suggest replacing the rear main seal

How to replace a rear main seal in a 2001 chevy 2500

several things, the rear main seal is accessable by removing the transmission. if this vehicle is standard transmission, then would recomend new clutch at this time given the amount of labor involved. if automatic, remove drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, and flexplate ....replace rear main. approx 5 hrs.

Oil leaking from rear main seal, how hard is this to change. And whats the going rate for a shop to do the repair.

Replacing the rear main seal is kind of a long one. It involves seperating the motor and trans. Depending if it is manual or auto, would weather you have to remove the flex plate (auto trans) or fly wheel (manual trans). Then of course there is removing the old seal, making sure it is free of burrs and putting the new one in, and reassembly.

Rear Main Seal Leak

To replace the seal, the mechanic will have to either lift the engine or lower the transmission. You will get much better pricing going to a transmission shop (e.g. AAMCO) and getting a quote from them to replace the seal.
