first and most important, check your oil level...make sure it is at full and is clear (not dark).

Your conditions normally suggest an electrical problem mostly seen if the battery and or alternator is not at full operating range. Try to get a digital voltmeter and measure the battery resting (not running), it should be about 12.4 volts or higher. With the engine running, it should read 13.9 to 14.7 volts. A cheap meter can be found for less than $10 and if you need to, go to a commercial auto parts store like Autozone, Advance auto or PepBoys and they will test your battery and alternator for free.

I had the exact same problem last year with my 2001 Alero 3.4L V6. It turned out to be that most of the copper strands in the multi-strand ground wire were broken, in the wiring harness passing over the transmission on the way to the fuel pump behind the fuel tank. The same ground wire is shared with several of the warning gages on the dash, causing several to remain lighted all the time. Both of the check engine lights, the brake light, the low oil light, and ABS light would all remain on all the time. Once the frayed portion of the ground wire above the transmission was repaired, the lights stayed out and the car started running normal, with the fuel now actually pumping gas under continuous high pressure to the engine.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero 6cyl car is running hot and It got a ticking sound just had the head gasket, waterpump thermostat and radiator replace. I'm thinking that it could be the oil pump because I had the...

An oil pump is an unlikey cause. If the oil pressure was really low the oil pressure light would be on and the engine would be knocking like crazy.

Check oil light on ,

Make sure you have the oil full on the dipstick, if the oil is not low then the pressure sending unit may be bad. do not drive the car till you are sure it is getting oil. If the oil pump went bad you may not know it till the engine siezes up, then its too late. I would contact a repair shop or the dealer to get this looked at before it's too late.

On my 2001 olds aurora 4 liter engine when I come to stop at traffic light low oil pressure light comes on until I bring RPM's up,is there a way to increse idling?

Sounds like your oil pump is bad - I'd have that checked. You can adjust throttle via the screw on the throttle line (look for the intake and there should be somthing resembling a bicycle cable going to the round throttle body). Tighter = higher idle. Fix the cause as soon as possible as this can destroy your engine quickly.
