2006 kia. how do i reset the automatic door locks. they want to lock as soon as i unlock them.

They are programmed to lock as soon as you put the car into Drive. It stops your child passengers opening the door and stops someone dragging you out of the drivers seat when stopped at lights.

Locking and unlocking when driving is not right though and needs investigation by an auto-electrician who will use a pro grade scan tool computer to record what the data says when this happens. Diagnosis provides the fix.

It appears to be a known issue.

Take car to dealer lock system needs to be reset. Some vehicles lock when get to a certain speed your vehicle simple needs a reset.

may need to lubricate door levers inside the doors.

Hey Anon, if everything else is working, no blown fuses,, the motor that runs the lock action has quit..there MIGHT be a connection issue, one of my vehicles auto locks quit.. I removed the electrical connections and replugged them and everything started working again.. try that..nothing to loose..its not a uncommon issue..

one of the servos in the door is stuck. not getting fully out so it locks back up drivers door is most common.....

it sounds like you may have a door switch going bad or in need to adjustment, the car thinks the door is ajar and then cycles the locks. the hard part may be to figure out which switch is making it act up.

Could be the door unlock relay is bad . Has a Separate relay for locking the doors . You'll have to look in your fuse boxes for location .

The 2006 Vibe no longer has that feature. It was discontinued after 2005. I have the 2005 so I know how to change it. If your 2006 is able to change then here are the directions from my 2005.

Door Locks
If you have an automatic transaxle, your vehicle is equipped with an auto door lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your power door locks.
Your vehicle left the factory programmed to Mode 4.
The following is a list of the available programming options:
Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking.
Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.
Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with the ignition on.
Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or to LOCK.
To change the mode you are in, do the following:
1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position.
See Interior Lamps Control on page 3-16.
2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Within five seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in
the lock position for about five seconds.
5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, if the lamp flashes once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.
If the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.

I had the same problem with my kia and they just fixed it. It was a bad switch.
