Question about Lincoln Town Car

3 Answers

I have a 2004 Lincoln Town Car where the high speed windshield wiper stopped while making a whining noise on the other speeds. Now all speeds have stopped. Will a new motor cure the problem or is there a electrical module that controls the motor?

First get yourself a good 12 volt test light and make sure you have power going to the wiper motor( most likely you do) if so yes replace wiper motor. Especially since you stated a whining noise. Any kind of elec. mod. Of any kind will be in your motor. I've rarely seen the wiper lever go out in a Lincoln or mercury.

Most of the time, a noisy motor is a bad motor. I don't think the module would make it whine, basically the module is an electrical switching device.

SOURCE: windshield wipers won't operate except when the

Yes it is called the body control module and is notorious for going bad, don't try to save any money buying it in a junkyard since these modules are PART number specific to each van. The dealer will have to flash it which means you will spend about 900 to 1000 to replace it including labor. But it's the only way to get it to work.

Current goes from the switch to the body control module THEN to the wipers which is why they are not working.

The wiper switch could be bad, but have it checked out by a shop, you dont want to guess and replace parts that are good.

New loud air noise, body shop guy thought it was under the hood, but sounds like the windshield to me. had wiper motor replaced and it started after that.

Anytime you change the wind flow direction over a car it will make unusual wind noise. I would look at the cowl cover that goes over the wiper motor "under the wipers". It may be out of place or maybe missing a screw. If the is a new high or low spot, it will make noise. It doesn't take much to change the air flow.

Lincoln town car 2000 - whine in the rear

Hi this is a common problem for these cars the whine noise is coming from the fuel pump and once they fuel pump starts whining the life of that pump is very short the best thing to do is replace the fuel pump and your fuel filter it shouldnt cost much mainly under $100.

Continuous "whine" @ 1500 RPM only; and jerks/2001 Lincoln LS

Run the car from the top of a hill and let it coast at your whining speed. Put it in Neutral, does the whine disappear?
If not its in the drivetrain (wheels, driveshafts, tranny)
Very unlikely to be the timing belt. If it appears at a fixed speed then its drivetrain, if it whines at fixed revs its the engine.
Most likey the transmission I fear....Tires will also make loud whining noise too though...

1997 Lincoln Towncar noise in dashboard

Is the noise coming from wiper area when you are driving on the highway? If it is the most likley solution is to replace the plastic peice at the bottom of the windshield that goes all the way across, on the outside between windshield and hood. when the wind hits it it makes noise.
