You need to poke a small extension with a 13mm socket through the holes in the power steering pulley, undo it, and slide it back.

SOURCE: replacing water pump on 2002

I haven't worked on the newer buicks but I play with alot of chevrolets and depending on the setup it maybe easier to pull the power steering pump bolts and lay it off to the side than it will be to pull the pulley of and press it back on. If you want to pull the pulley you will need a universal pulley puller available at most part stores, if the pulley has bolts in it you will remove the bolts and the puller will have bolts that will slide into the existing holes allowing you to remove the pulley.

Is the water pump pulley suppose to move freely or not w/o the serpentine belt? 2006 Impala 3.9 194,000 miles.

The a/c pulley is clutched, the ribbed portion( that the belt rides in), should turn freely w/o the belt! With the belt on, the a/c on, and the car running, the a/c clutch should kick in and spin occasionally! The waterpump should have little resistance w/o the belt! Id suggest replacing it if you cant turn it by hand, without the belt!

Need to replace waterpump

Your Malibu is equipped with probably the EASIEST water pump in the word to change.

Drain the cooling system.
Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
Remove the drive belt.
Remove the water pump pulley bolts and pulley.
Remove the water pump bolts, pump and gasket.
Clean the water pump mating surfaces.
Install the water pump and reassemble in reverse order

Hint: The O-ring that seals the water pump is much easier to install if you use a little dielectric grease to "stick" it to the water pump before installing. This O-ring needs to expand and contract and move freely in the water pump groove due to extreme changes in engine temperature. The dielectric grease will actually help accomplish this. DO NOT use RTV silicone to "glue" the O-ring.

Squelling undrehood on right side ,changed tersioner pully new belt, new water pump,

Make sure your alternator and power steering pumps are turning freely. I personally have never seen a power steering pump lock up, but it could. I have, on the other hand seen numerous alternators freeze up because of bad bearings. Either one would cause a "squalling" sound as the engine runs and tries to rotate the belt over a pulley that isn't turning.

How to adjust de belt to grand cherokee 8 cilinders 4.7

  1. Step 1 Find the belt tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley is generally between the crankshaft and a component toward the top of the hood area.
  2. Step 2 Check the belt routing so you know how to replace the belt. You may be able to find a belt routing diagram on a decal on the fan shroud or in support documentation. Otherwise, make you own sketch for reference.
  3. Step 3 Rotate the belt tensioner pulley, using the wrench, to and relieve tension on the belt.
  4. Step 4 Slip off the old belt and slowly release the tensioner pulley.
  5. Step 5 Use your belt routing diagram to put the new belt onto all of the pulleys. Pay close attention to the water pump pulley, as incorrect routing can cause the water pump to run backwards and overheat.
  6. Step 6 Make sure the belt is correctly routed and seated on all pulleys. Rotate the tensioner again to allow for the belt to slip onto all pulleys and then release the tensioner again to regain correct tension on the belt.

Pulley on engine does not turn

inside the pulley attached to the crank shaft which turns the belts is a piece that allows the pulley to turn in reverse freely. if this breaks the pulley will not rotate. the engine will still run, but without rotating the water pump, will overheat. Change the pulley and you should solve the problem

The serpintine belt wasnt turning and it smoked and tore in half

You have a bad pulley. Try turning the alternator pulley, water pump pulley, power steering pulley....gonna guess though that it is either the alternator or the water pump. You should be able to turn these by hand easily.
