General:Inside the car, close to the driver seat.Under the dash, under the ashtray,in the fuse box, under the seat, behind the glove box, under the hand brake.
Best guess:under the fan clima controls,on the right side,u have to slide left the little rectangular cap(mask).Warning:97 vw is not obd compliant, may be the same plug but has it owns code reader, usually acable with soft for pc (ebay).

ALL cars are within 2 feet of steering column, I would say 4 inches in front of your knee caps under driver side dash.

97 jetta airbag light on

the airbag light on is telling there is a problem. On some vehicles require a OBD2 code scanner for the diagnosis. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing.

My 97 jetta is overheating. i have replaced the temp sensor, but still nothing. even after i turn off the the car the fans do not come one...please help!

Had the same problem on my 97 Jetta. Replace the fan switch sensor on the side of the radiator. If you look at it on the drivers side about 3/4 of the way up there will be a plug. That's what tells the fans when to turn on.

97 Jetta GL 2.0 –connected a Code Reader (OBDII compatible) but unable to establish any communication-everything else works as normal- Is there a main fuse which protects the diagnostic link thanks for...

This is what I do, first is to connect my OBDII reader, pull ashtray out, on right side of ashtray, slide front panel out, connect OBDII reader, turn ignition to on, do not start, press read on OBDII, should be able to establish communication. If not then probably connection is bad somewhere from connector to the Digifant Control Unit (brain), there is no fuse in between.

have your car plugged in for fault codes, I suspect you have a turbo fault, maybe just an actuator or waste gate fault, but code reader will identify

97 Jetta stalls when hot but restarts after 10 minutes

I don't think so. You really need to get into component testing and see what has failed. I would guess that it is either the engine coolant temp. sensor or the fuel pump relay or fuel pump. Find out if you ECM has any stored codes, this might help put you in the right direction.
