Due to the age of the vehicle, I would say that you are needing a new sender. This is a float that is in the tank. It means that you are going to have to raise the vehicle and drop the fuel tank. This is not an easy job and can be dangerous. The tank needs to be as empty as you can get it. There are hoses and wires to to contend with too.

My 1999 Silverado fuel gauge jumps from 3/4 full to 1/4 full while on but in park. Also it has died a couple times lately while turning a corner. It will start right up if cold but if it is warm sometimes...

Sounds like your fuel pump is going out, I replaced mine at 120,000 miles. The fuel level sending unit is built on the fuel pump, so it will solve your level indication problem as well. The cheapest place I found a fuel pump was, believe it or not, on I searched for the part no., did a search, and found it there at the lowest price.

Changing the fuel pump is not really that hard - would take you and a couple of buddies about 2-3 hours. Email me if you need step by step instructions.

the fuel level sensor is bad. I would recommend replacing the Fuel Pump Module which will be a new pump and fuel level sensor. If its been replaced already, sometimes using Chevron Fuel Injection Cleaner TECHRON will clean the contacts and MAY get it working again.
