Your car reads off of the trans. Sensors to shift. You are going to need an input and output sensor, that will fix your speedometer also.

2003 Kia Sedona odometer and speedometer not working, how can I fix?

Usually if both stop working the speed sensor in the transmission has failed, but the check engine light should also be on.

Why do my speed odometer jump every now and then

There is 2 possiblities. 1 there is a speed sensor on the side of the transmission ( I'm not 100% where it's located) that has a plastic gear attached to main shaft in the transmission and it is not making good contact with the shaft. 2 The wire harness connected to the sensor may have a break in the wire.

im not too sure when the crossover is but the newer cobalts are equipped with electric power steering, and to me it sounds like a short between the powersteering circuit and the vehicle speed circuit.

Common in these trucks. GM got a bad batch of stepper motors from their supplier. Not covered under any recall though. Check ebay for someone to fix, unless you're willing to soldier a motor onto a circuit board. $150 on ebay. Dealers will fix too, but well over $500.

Your dashboard circuit is probably burnt out. The same thing happened to me, it's like a $20 part but is about $60 with installation, check with a dealer though.
