Really better to hitch a ride. Sometimes you might be able to order the part and take a cab to pick up the part.

I can't imagine how this big part is broke so it is hard for us to know how safe it is.

SOURCE: 2006 Mustang rear break caliper piston will not compress

Hi Alberts73,
The caliper piston has to be turned clockwise as it is compressed. If not,it will not retract. This will allow the park brake to reset. If you have only pressed the caliper in with a "C" clamp, you may have damaged the mechanism inside the caliper. If this has happened, you will need to replace them. The OTC #206-026 is the tool for turning the caliper back into the bore. I hope this helps,if you need more information, drop me a line. Thanks,Chuck

SOURCE: rear brakes on 1998 mercury sable

I've done it and hated every minute of it.

Get a quality brake piston rotator tool. The Autozone 5 sided cube is no good.

you will have to spin the piston back about 4-5 turns until it fully retracts.

The expanding/ 500lb pressure clamps do no good b/c the brake is like a hydraulic screw. You can't compress this type of brake.
Starting the rotation of the piston back will require two people

1 to hold the tool and ratchet on the piston, the other to turn the ratchet.

SOURCE: audi Q7 transmission rear crossmember broke down need to remove member bolt

I think that it wouldn't be a good idea to use en electric arc welder as the current generated by the welding poles could damage small integrated components. May be you sould try drilling them out instead.
Cheers

How to remove the rear brake drum on a chev 3500 4x4

Unless this truck was designed different from all the rest? It should be has simple as pulling off the tire and tapping around the back edge of the drum and it should pop off. Be sure emergency break is off, because that will spread the shoes making the drum wedged on. You did say drum, correct? Because if you have rear disc breaks? Pull tire and remove housing (two bolts) holding the break pads. You may have to stick a pry bar between the rotor & caliper to depress the caliper piston/s. A 350 truck probably has 2-pistons on the caliper. Also. get a couple finger visegrips to depress the pistons all the way down before trying to reinstall the break-pads. This way you don't have to bleed the breaks when you are done. just remember to pump them up a few times before you take off to drive. they will come right back up and should work perfectly.

I have a 2008 Mercury Sable that is having break problems. I went to replace the break pads on the rear and the driver side went great. When i got to the passanger side i noticed that i could barely spin...

Take the rotor off and check the ebrake. If the rotor is hard to get off then the ebrake is holding it on and is most likely your problem. It won't be your master cylinder or proportioning valve because it is only affecting one side. Any questions feel free to email me at tnaautomotive@hotmail.com

Does the rear break piston compress or turn to get the break pad on

The type that compress have a large"X" or a slot on the caliper piston. This is to allow a tool to "turn" it.
The push in style are cupped or flat.

Timing belts

the chances are very high that the piston hit a few valves, it all depends on how many rpm the engine was and what position the valves were when it broke.
the cheapest route would be to install a new belt then do a compression test...then take it from there
good luck

2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving

i would check front and rear brakes if rears are drum brakes i would inspect springs and hardware making sure everthing is conected and in place also make sure they are adjusted properly in the front and if rear disc i would make sure to grease caliper slides these allow caliper to move and its important that all moving brake parts are free push caliper pistons in alittle to see if they are sized or not booster is ok and most of the time when master goes it will leak where it meets booster and you will have a low brake pedal or no brakes
