Reversing battery connections results in immediate, irreversible damage. You will have to troubleshoot everything and make replacements to get your Niissan running again.

Crossing the battery leads to one major fault and that is the destruction of the CPU in the ECM unit. The fusible links are either cloth covered wire next to the battery or ceramic type fuse holders in a block next to the battery.

First check the battery. May ruin the battery. Postive cable has a inline fuse in it. Just below the clamp.

I have 05 kia rio. jump started dead battery but the cables were crossed and killed it instead. purchased new battery. car stuck in park. worked when screwdriver in override button but still won'

There is a large maxi-fuse between the battery and alternator. Its at least 100 amp or more. It may be in the cable at the battery, or in one of the fuse boxes.
You may also have damaged the key switch or the brake circuit.
You may have to get a book to get the wiring diagrams to check everything involved.

Sounds like a wiring issue. You may have crossed the wires going to the solenoid. This would account for both the sparks and smoke. Be careful, you can blow up a battery if you have wires reversed. Double check the battery cables to ensure they too are not crossed.

Was boosting off care and crossed cables. car

This is the first thing I would do and it is a long shot. Disconnect the battery for 2 to 3 minutes and connect it again. Start the car and let it run for normal use as the engine computer reprograms itself. If it works you will be relieved.
