Question about Cars & Trucks

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan alternator went bad. We replaced it. Now won't start. Will turn over but not fire. Getting code 168.8. ASD relay doesn't read any voltage at the socket. We have replaced ASD relay. Can hear fuel pump running. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Have you tried to jump the battery with another car?
The alternator keeps the vehicle running does not start the vehicle.
I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge caravan 3.0 liter. fuel pump relay not

Have you checked the ASD (Automatic Shut Down) Relay? Check to see if that is getting power. Then check to see if the ASD Relay itself is good. You do not have to use any special tools/knowledge to check this. You can change this Relay out with another Relay that is the same shape and type on a function that is known working. For example: Check to see if your Front Windshield Wipers are working. Change out the ASD Relay with this Front Windshield On/Off Relay. Check the Wipers again. If it does not work, then the ASD Relay is bad. With the Front Wiper Relay in the ASD now check for power to the Fuel Pump Relay.
One additional fact: IF the Crankshaft Position Sensor is bad the Engine will not operate at all, meaning there will be no power sent to anything including the fuel pump relay!

Code po205

Click here Dottie to see your code,These are all injector codes. Since it is more than one injector can be a problem with the asd relay which supplies voltage to the injectors or the powertrain control module (PCM) which controls the ground to the injectors. I would start by replacing the asd relay and checking the wires from the relay to the injectors and then the wiring from the injectors to the PCM and if all checks good then replace the PCM

2001 grand caravan will not start would the bcm do this

Checc your asd relay. Mine was doing same thing and asd relay would open then shut immediately. Turn key to on pos then pull relay when you put it bacc in you will feel it open then close right away. If so your camshaft or crankshaft pos sensors are most likely the issue. Checc fuel line if fuel line shuts down it is your asd I believe most def

Asd 25a fuse blows every time i crank engine 2001 dodge grand caravan 3.3

Unplug these items,
- coil pack
- the multi wire connector on the back of the alternator
- both oxygen sensors

Install a new fuse and see if it blows when you turn the key on. If it does than there could be a problem with the fuel injectors or the wiring to the injectors or any of the items that where unplugged.

if it doesn't plug the coil pack back in and start the vehicle. If it blows with the coil pack plugged in replace the coil pack.

If it still doesn't blow with the coil pack plugged in and the engine running shut it down and plug in the alternator and start the vehicle. If it blos with the alternator plugged in replace the alternator.

Continue the same steps with the O2 sensors if needed.

If you have any questions let me know and I'll be happy to help. Thank you for using Fixya.com!

What is the fault codes 1388 and 1389 for a 2002 Dodge Grand caravan? My engine stops while driving and won't start. It will usually start later but seems to be starved for fuel.

No voltage sensed at the PCM (powertrain control module) when the ASD (auto shut down) relay is energized. It could be the ASD relay, the PCM, possibly their relays.
If you are interested in further diagnosing the problem, I will be happy to assist you.

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan battery light is on. Battery and alternator have been checked and are ok. What could be wrong?

The alternator has a bad diode in the diode bridge in the alternator, this turns the light on,even though the alternator checks good, and is charging correctly, there is a bad diode, this diode ,along with others, changes ac voltage to dc voltage,if not replaced,it will start causing components to go out.

On 1996 dodge grand caravan code 42 from blinks from chedk engine light.

A code 42 is the Auto Shutdown Relay Control Circuit....The ASD relay is located under the hood in the Power Distribution Center next to the battery. Change the ASD relay, that should fix you up. If that doesn't work...you might have to check the PCM. But replacing the ASD relay should do it.

Technical Point: "Fire" aka high voltage, should be coming FROM the coil not TO it. If your coil is not being energized the first check after looking for obvious loose connections is testing voltages to the components IAW the shop manual. If all are go remove the coil and take it in for a test to see if it is producing sufficient spark energy. Alternatively swap coil with a known working coil to isolate the problem. Also initiate a self test of the built-in diagnostics and check for ignition related codes.( see the shop manual)
