Question about Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

My '04 Sonata is missfiring on #1,3&5 cylinders. I have replaced the wires, plugs, coil pack and crank sensor but still have the same problem. I unhooked the battery for several hours and after I hooked it back up the car ran like a dream for about a week then started same thing over again. The car also surges when at a red light and when you drive at a steady speed as in cruise mode. Has anyone ever heard of reprogramming the e c u?

Sounds more like vacuum or intake gasket leak to me. Ecus do not cause that kind of behavior.

SOURCE: 2001 hyundai sonata 2.4 dohc, cylinder 3 misfire code

tried testing the igniter also i would look into the injector, that will cause a single cylinder misfire and probably is your problem?misfires are not noticeable at higher speeds, which im sure you know but i would go that route, could have a pinched injector or a stuck one. one easy way to test is swap 3rd injector with another and see if that one starts misfiring instead, another rought is to get a cheap auto stethoscope and put it to each injector to hear if its opening and closing, compare with others. good luck.

SOURCE: My Dodge Neon will crank, but not start?

If you are asking about the battery light, there is a battery temperature sensor at the front of the battery tray to the right of the battery holddown hardware. If the snow loosened the wires or blocked the airflow to the sensor, the battery light will come on. The battery and alternator voltage can be correct, and the sensor will make the light come on.

The cylinders are numbered as on the spark pack you changed. You might have done better putting the seafoam in the tank as an injector cleaner. Not sure why you changed so many parts, you seem to know how to get the codes from test connector lead hookup and the blink pattern. You might also want to check the fuel rail pressure and the crank and cam angle sensors. Before replacing the injector, swap the #4 injector with the adjacent one and see it the code moves with the injector or stays put. If the code stays on #4, then check the injector wiring, if it moves clean or replace the injector.

I had a missfire code saying cylinder 2 n it was missing but drivable.. Now its not its shaking horribly n i put a new new coil pack on n plug n wires n still rough low idle n coil pack is super hot to...

Try switching the new coil pack to a different cylinder and check if the miss follows the new coil pack or stays at #2. Just because the coil pack is new don't mean it cant be bad also. You did say it was getting real hot.

Have a problem with misfire on one cylinder. To date have changed crank sensor, coil pack, plugs, wires, fuel injector, fuel pump, cleaned maf sensor. HELP!! Pulled plug...it's black and wet.

You did everything you can when its wet and you replaced plugs coil injectors. You are dealing with a low compression or head gasket. Also check the coolant you could be loosing it.

How do you change spark plugs in a 2004 hyundia sonata

It depends on which engine is in the vehicle. The 2004 Sonata came with two possible powertrains -- the 2.4 Lit L4, and the 2.7 Lit V6.

On the 4 cylinder engine, there are two coil packs and two ignition wires, Below each coil pack is a spark plug (#2 and #4 cylinders). The wire from # 2 coil pack goes to #3 spark plug, and the wire from #4 coil pack goes to #1 spark plug.

Now the 2.7 Lit V6 requires you remove the surge tank (intake manifold) in order to access the spark plugs & wires on Bank 1 (Right Hand side of the engine).

Misfire #3 cylinder

Has anyone found the problem? My 2003 has #3 cyclinder misfire and I have replaced the plugs and wires. It runs rough at idle but smooths out at highway speed. Anyone have any knowledge on this? This sounds like a common problem.
