SOURCE: 2006 Pontiac G6 with intermittent

I think I know why you are having trouble understanding this. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0014 is NOT a "cam position sensor" code. It is an "Exhaust Camshaft Actuator" code...BIG DIFFERENCE! When the exhaust cam actuator is malfunctioning, it causes your exhaust cam to be out of time. This can cause ALL KINDS of drive-ability problems!

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Actuator is attached to the camshaft and is hydraulically operated in order to change the camshaft position relative to the position of the Crankshaft Position (CKP). The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the camshaft timing by sending a pulse to the Camshaft Actuator Solenoid. The soleniod controls the flow of engine oil pressure to the camshaft actuator. By this method the PCM can change the camshaft timing by up to 25 degrees.

DTC P0014 sets when:
(A) The PCM has enabled the CMP actuator.
(B) The difference between the desired CMP angle and the actual CMP angle is greater than 6 degrees
(C) The CMP actuator is steady for 3 seconds
(D) The condition is present for 13.5 seconds

This code can be caused by several diferent things including the wrong viscosity engine oil, PCM failure, Cam Actuator Solenoid failure, faulty Cam Actuator circuits, and a few others.

The transmission hard-shift can be caused by this or it may be a completely separate problem. There are several Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for your transmission having a hard shift problem. One of them (TSB 04-07-30-013B) even states that a hard shift can be caused by contamination of the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)

I would recommend scanning ALL of your modules (PCM, ABS, BCM, IPC, AIR BAG, etc.) to see if there are any communications faults recorded or any other faults that may have any relation to your problem such as power loss, or ground faults in one or more of the circuits so a COMPLETE diagnosis can be achieved.

Im getting a P0017, P0014, P0300 code on my 06' Colorado, I replaced crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor do I have to reset the timing on my vehicle?

po300 is a general missfire code if i rember right. there is more than likely an install procedure that will require you to clear all cods ( even if there is no code preasent ) before you install the new part or failure of those parts can happen

P0014 and p1345 codes

Hello billscranese,

The P0014 is a cam phasing code. The phasing system is a hydraulic actuated phase shifting system and is vulnerable to dirty oil. If its been sometime since your last oil change I would recommend that you start with that. The control module turns off the MIL after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.

The P1345 could be caused by the P0014. The powertrain control module monitors the correlation between the crank and cam positions and if the deviation between the two exceeds a predetermined amount it will set the code.

Good luck.

Regards,
netvan

My check engine light on my 07 saturn ion keeps coming on and gives the code p1174 and p0300 what do they mean and how do i fix

1174 is a lean code, and would have to been set first because it will not set when the 0300 is there. 0300 is a random misfire, because it read after the lean code, it was probably caused by the lean condition. 1st check for vacuum leaks from hoses or intake gaskets, you cal listen for a hissing sound, or spray carb cleaner around intake systems, a change in rpm will be noticed when spraying near a vac leak. other probable causes are the upstream 02 sensor, map sensor, or fuel delivery problems. does the vehicle idle porly, or does it miss at the top end?
