Code 15 relates to a failure in the vehicle speed sensor circuit. The job of the vehicle speed sensor is to inform the computer about the speed of the vehicle so the computer can calculate engine load and prepare the engine idle speed control system while the vehicle is decelerating. On deceleration, the idle speed control system will allow additional air flow into the engine as the vehicle rolls to a stop. Usually code 15 will be accompanied by erratic speedometer readings (or no reading), erratic AT gear shifting, TCC lockup clutch instability, and intermittent or complete failure of the cruise control.

02 dodge ram 1500 4x4 codes p0500 speed sersor A p1794 speed sersor ground

your nearly there , the vehicle speed sensor , vss, isn't recieving correct signal thats the P0500, the P1794 indicates a broken circuit , so will need to diagnose from the vss through to the PCM , get an auto electrician if not experienced on vehicle electronic parts , will save time and money as there are many speed sensors giving information when vehicle is moving

Can I replace the transmission solonoid on a 98 Town and Country Van without resetting the computer?

It depends. Are there codes in the computer now? Has it bee reset since you replaced the input speed sensor? If the codes are still in there, the transmission may still be in limp-in mode.

Your transmission is computer controlled. Trying to diagnose or repair it without the ability to interface with the computer that controls it about the same as surfing the internet with no monitor. If you push the right buttons and click your mouse just right, you might get to the page you are looking for (not likely, but possible). However, when you do get there, you still won't know it....

P0501 code on 2004 dodge ram, how to repiar

Causes A P0501 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
  • The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
  • There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor
  • The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle
Possible Solutions The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.
If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor. Again, the exact procedure wil depend on your make and model of vehicle.
If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.

Speedometer doesn't work on dodge ram 1500, reading codes 950 and 999

First off you need to determine if it's the speedometer head or the (vss) vehicle speed sensor,
First check the speedometer by holding in the trip reset button and turn the ignition switch to run, continue to hold the trip button for 10 seconds, and the release, this will run a diagnostic on all the dash lights and gauges,The speedometer will jump up a 1/4 of the way then half,3/4 and then 100% of the needle movement,If all is good there then check the vehicle speed sensor which is located in the top of the axle housing,if you have a scan tool that displays engine data it will show vehicle speed,if you get 0 for speed while driving then replace the (vss) sensor by unplugging the wire harness, remove the 10mm nut in the metal cover and pull the sensor straight up and out, install in reverse order,I would apply a small amount of silicon around the sensor before install to insure there will be no leaks.
After1998 all dodge rams vss are in the rear axle housing.

I turned the key to my 2001 dodge ram 3500 and it

A code P0500 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
1.The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly 2.There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor 3.The vehicle's PCM is not correctly configured for the actual tire size on the vehicle
The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC
Detected in ECM
A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM which is related to the above DTC code.
