I would say a few things here, First of all it might have helped to have some details on what vehicle this is on???
would get a code reader on it and eliminate the guessing game. if you don't have one, then, you could be looking at any number of sensors, MAP, mas air flow, Distributor faulty, coil/coil pack faulty, ignition module, crank sensor, without any details all I can do is guess for you. get a code reader on it. good luck.

You HALL EFFECT SENSOR in the distributor controls both spark and fuel pulse---check there first for a defect (bad sensor/stripped distributor shaft).
