SOURCE: 1996 JGC Laredo, Last night headlights were fine,

Check the fuse no.# 10 - F10 (15A) = Headlamps, situated in the fuse box / relay plate, fascia 1, placed on the driver's side above pedals. See pictures below:

Same problem with my 1997 JGC Laredo 4x4 , replaced Crankshaft Pos. Sensor , Ignition Coil and code came back to PCM. took the PCM off and apart and found a bad solder joint at the female plug contact and resoldered. replaced and didnt work , so i bought another and installed and problem fixed!

ENGINE SWAP 2001 4.0 IN TO A 1997 jgc LAREDO

Should work, if it's also a 4.0 that came out. If it was a 4 cylinder then you will need a lot of parts and wiring harness for the swap like 4.0 shocks, motor mounts, transmission, drive shaft etc

2001 jgc limited has good battery power turn key to start and dash lights all go out engine wont start headlights dont even dim had the yellow fuse cradle out it had 2 10 amp fuses in it after that this...

A mechanic would check for power at the starter and trace back to the key switch. There is a neutral safety switch to keep you from starting the engine in gear that could have failed.

2001 JGC check engine light.......scanned something about gas vapor......can you tell me more, overdue for inspection

About gas vapor code? We need exactly the code to give additional details and tips to solve it.

Check procedure turning key on ignition switch on/off three times, then read and note the odometer code numbers.

Keep us updated.

Would a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo engine fit in a 2000 model?

The actual engine assembly will fit but you need to determine if there were any changes made between the two years in the computer or wiring harness. Also make sure that both engines have the exact same transmissions as sometimes the bellhousing patterns are different.
I'm pretty sure yours is a direct replacement though, providing both engines are the same displacement..Most scrapyards have an interchange manual that may help you. (they have to know these things...it's their business)
