That means either you have a vapour lock, your water pump has failed, or your thermostat isn't opening. It is not easy for a non-mechanic to put coolant into a vehicle... more often than not you get a vapour lock. Sometimes this happens if you don't check your overflow bottle daily, (or weekly). If you have no habit of checking your tires, your oil, your brake fluid, your signals, transmission fluid etc then it is easy for you to neglect your overflow bottle. If the coolant gets all the way to the bottom then your radiator will start emptying daily into your overflow bottle and causing you problems.

Testimonial: "If this the problem do I just drain the radiator and refill?? I can do alot of things and do alot of my own repair work and have a really good general knowlege of working on vehicles. This is the first Ranger however I have owned. I dont think its the thermostat enging runs at normal operating temperature."

Checked the thermostat chechecked the water pump, however the single hose heater control valve was hot on the inflow and cold on the outflow that had the vaccum diaphram on it . The diaphram seem to bee workiing .. turned the heat on and the stem came out turn off it went back in when we turned it off so I assume it is workiing. Anymore suggestion would be appreciated.

SOURCE: How do you fix the driver side air blend door actuator?

you cannot repair the actuator you need to replace it with new one. These motors turn but get weak with time. if you test it, it works, put it in and it doesn't. this is because the motor is weak, unfortunately GM does not sell these motors separately.

Heater blowing cold air

1. Check coolant level to ensure full, and thus getting to heater core.
2. If that didnt work, With engine hot and running, and heat on in the truck, feel heater core inlet and outlet hoses at the engine compartment firewall to ensure both are hot an thus getting flow. If not the core is clogged or there is a faulty valve in the flow path.
3. If te hoses are hot there is flow thru the core and either your blend door is broken and shut or the blend door motor or circuitry is bad.
4. You tube Ford Ranger blend door for video on how to access behind the glove box. You can fairly easily remove the motor and undoing so check its operation and also the blend door operation.
Likely your motor has gone bad and can be replaced using a low profile socket wrench to remove the 3 Screws holding it in place. I bought a new motor for $40 at One o te auto parts chains locally.
Good luck!

Why my 97 ford ranger with a 2.3 wont switch from cold to heat

if the heater hoses are hot, its usually a sign of a faulty temp selector or one of the blend doors under the dash. The blend doors direct air flow thru the heater core and the vents.

Hot air cmes out the passenger side while in the ac mold

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and evaporator core depending on the temp control on the dash.

My 2001 ford ranger heater blows out cold air, what might be my problem??

If you are sure the engine is getting up to temperature then your problem will be a part called the electrically positioned blend door and or the little motor that moves the blend door. The blend door moves back and forth between the AC core and the heater core to provide a mix of hot and cold air or hot or just cold depending on what you set the air temperature control at, blue being cold and red being hotter. This is all to common a problem on Ford rangers and Explorers which share the same components of the heating and AC systems. When the door fails it is usually on the cold setting position. The kicker here is that you must remove the dash to replace the parts, the blend door and the blend door actuator motor should both be replaced at the same time, the common reason for the motor to fail is a sticking hard to move blend door due to warping of the plastic it is made from.

The fan works, air conditioning works, but the air wont heat up(knob turns to hot on thermostat). is it a vacuum hose problem, and how do we get to it?

The most common cause of this in the Ranger and the Explorer is that a part called the air temeperature control blend door acuator or the blend door shaft that the electric actuator moves has broken, this door is what shuttles between the heater core and the AC core and provides either heated or cooled air, or a blend of the two hot and cold air streams.

If the fan works in all speeds but is not hot, it is most likely the heater core that is at fault.

Heater blows hot air in all control settings 98 Ranger

There is small cable that runs from the back of the temp control switch on the console that goes through the firewall and loops around a valve on the heater hose that is used to control the amount of hot coolant that goes into your heater coil. This cable hooks on the back of the temp control switch also. Bad news, that's probably where it came off and you'll have to pull the control unit out of the dash to get to it.

Ford ka heater blows hot air all the time

Taurus does not use a heater control valve. It runs coolant thru the heater core constantly. You may have a temp blend door actuator problem or a plugged up heater core is also very common. Feel the heater hoses, they should both be very hot, it one is much cooler; you can try to back flush the core.
