Question about 2007 Kia Optima

1 Answer

Ok here is the problem I have a 2007 Kia Optima that feels like it is lagging or chugging. I can really feel it more when I am going at a slow speed more then when I am excellerating. My mechanic has put it on the scope and nothing shows up on it. It is driving me nuts.My gas millage is not good only 18 to 20 MPG and should be getting 24 to 34 .I think 2.4 engine 4 cylender. Please any help I am getting so frustrated.

SOURCE: I have a 2002 Kia Sportage - idle slow when stopping at lights

Even though the fuel filter and pump are easy to replace, I would start with the IAC sensor first. It is easier to get to and is cheaper than the other two if you can find one at a wrecking yard (should be around $20). This sensor is the Idle Air Control sensor, and the computer decides how much throttle to give at idle from the readings of the sensor. If it is bad your car will idle poorly or not at all.

You can verify this two simple ways:

1. Disconnect the sensor completely and see if anything changes. If you get the same issue, then it's probably the sensor. If different then it could be fuel delivery.

2. With it all hooked up; try throttling the engine yourself at 1000-1200 rpm and see if it is smooth. If it is then it is probably the sensor. If not then could be the fuel delivery.

The sensor is under the silver and black, plastic KIA cover over the engine (4 small nuts to remove), and is center above the engine on the front side of the intake pipe.

The part looks like this:

If it seems to still be fuel delivery, the filter is (facing the engine from the front of the car) down to the left and toward the back attached to the fender well (Just to the right of and below the battery)

Change your crankshaft sensor located behind lower timing belt cover. The way I check it is to unplug the maf and see if it will start if so stop the engine and do a diagnostic 3 DTC's should come up on screen ,one would be the crankshaft sensor. This should be done by a experienced tech.

My 2004 kia optima driver side front make a roaring noise while its rolling

Sounds like you have a wheel bearing problem. Jack up the front end so wheels are off the ground. put your hand on the spring on the strut then turn the wheel with the other hand. If the bearing is bad you will feel the vibration/rough spot in the spring. Noise will get louder or diminish when you peed up or slow down.

When driving my kia optima the transminssion slips alot it feels like it trying to kick into gears...what could it be

check the level of the transmission fluid. And if its good nd ur rpms are going to hight and the car still not picking up speed you may be looking at a bad transmission. You will have to replace it or rebuild the same one on your car.

My 05 kia optima is loosing power

To confirm the clutch is slipping , drive at about 35mph in 5th gear and then put your foot to the floor (making sure the road in front is clear!) IF the engine note increases along with the revs and the speed stays the same then it is the clutch that needs replacing.
