SOURCE: How to time a 2.3 1995 ford ranger

you have to loosen the tension bolt on the distributor and turn it left or right a few degrees while using a timing gun. stop adjusting after the line on the harmonic balancer lines up with the 0 peg. On a side note, being you have a 95 the ecm may control the timing on your vehicle, if it does and your timing is still off your ecm could be bad.

My 1995 ford ranger xlt 4cyl 2.3 ltr starts then shuts off in seconds, it did this 9 yrs ago and all it needed was a fuse. could someone please tell me what fuse and where so i dont have to pay for another...

go to the passenger floor boad, up by the end of the transmission tunnel, pull the carpet back and you will find a fuel inertia switch attached to the passenger side of the transmission tunnel.
make sure it is plugged in, it is common for passengers to step on these wires and pull the plug.
if its plugged in than make sure the button on the top of the switch is fully depressed.

let me know if this helps
