Check for this three things. Fuel, spark and compression. If any of this three is missing, the car wont start.

You need to replace and adjust your transmission range sensor switch. (also known as neutral safety switch) It is located under the air cleaner ducting on the top of the transmission under the lever where the shifter cable attaches.

Car won't start

Anything is possible, but I doubt the new battery has failed.
Chances are the alternator is not charging the battery.
The alternator should be able to power the headlights and engine once it starts.
You also need to know why the battery went dead overnight.

1992 mazda protege dx 4 dr won't start. Battery is only 2 months old. Makes a fast ticking sound from inside car similar to turn signal light out.

Hi Robin, As the battery is new and presumably not defective, I think you should suspect the soloniod fitted to the starter motor. If that component has become defective it will give the sound you're reporting. Depending on where you live in the world and the labour charges, you can have the contacter's replaced or the starter motor (if labour charges are high) Regards John

1998 Mazda Protoge won't start

One of two things. Starter (or starter solenoid) or Neutral Safety Switch. Check the starter by disconnecting the EFI relay, then jump a wire from the positive term of battery to lug on starter solenoid does it crank okay? If not, then check the NSS, located under the airbox, can be adjusted using the offset bolt, just a tiny bit at a time, still no start? replace the NSS and adjust as necessary.

Just replace my battery and starter on a 2001 mazda protege and it still does not start just clicks what can be the problem

Since they are new you need to carefully check the connections at the battery, the starter, and the ignition switch and look for damage wiring. Rare, but new batteries can be bad, check your voltage resting (should be about 12.6+) and cranking/clicking (above 10.4), If either are low, you have a bad connection, bad battery or bad starter, even if new.Measure at the battery and at the starter positive connection to see if you have a clamp or cable issue.
