Hello , you are probably not doing anything wrong. Some garage door openers will not accept some codes. My Toyota Tundra 2005 worked on my garage door , but my 2004 F250 would not. Quinn , Arizona

I had same prob with Grand Cherokee - no rhyme nor reason as to when, where or why it wouldn't start. After two new starters the shop finally found a starter wire/cable that was corroded on the inside. Mech' could move it back and forth and it would / would not start. Changed cable six months ago - no problems since. Hope it helps.

SOURCE: tried to use the remote
Check under the dashboard, if the remote start isn't factory there should be two switches under there just make sure there on. Hope that helps you.
