Question about Volvo Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I drive a 1994 Volvo 850. For the past couple of weeks, a fan underneath my battery has been running almost constantly. It runs both when the car is on and off. When I turn off the car, the fan is running, and does not stop. When I return to the car after work or class, it is still running. It occasionally stops, but it is more often running than not. I had yet to seek a fix because drivability has not been affected, and there was always something more pressing on my mind. Last night, my battery was run down to a point where it could not start. I jumped it, it took a very long time to be able to start, and I drove about 75 minutes home. This morning it was dead again and measures only 0.2 V. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

SOURCE: 1994 Sentra running rough

thanks for asking , i am sorry to tell you that the problem you asking for could be for a lot of reasons , but , i will try to help you by tell you some things to check it , first you should be sure that the car is not over heated , and and the sparks are good , and all the cylinders are working properly and that by removing each spark wire but every one separately and see if any change happen ,if no change happen with one of the sparks so you found the problem and it is that you r car don't work with all it's cylinders , but if that will not be easy for you to do it your self , so be sure that if you driven the car to a local garage no damage will happened , and don't worry that shouldn't cost you a lot of money , and thank you for using fixya.

SOURCE: engine fan keeps running

It's possible that the fan control relay is intermittently sticking causing the fans to run continuously. This can overheat and subsequently blow the fuse. Try replacing the relay and see if anything changes.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Running noise in the dash, runs down a new battery

Ah ha! The intake valve for the interior temp. control was continuing to run after the engine was off. It was making noise (like a running fan). I removed it. So what the auto temp does not work. It is an old car... if you get hot turn down the air, if you get cold, turn up the heater. Removing this did not affect the effectiveness of the heat or air.

SOURCE: park lights and dash lights won't stop flashing

There is a small black box under dash by steering column that has a little red button on it. Push that button and it will reset the alarm. Whenever the power is removed from the system it will trigger that alarm and flash your lights. Easy quick fix. Box is about 4" x4" and just to the left of the column. Good luck and have a great day.

If you have not already replaced the idle control valve then remove it and soak it in brake cleaner for about 30 minutes to remove any oil residue which may prevent it from operating correctly. Before you refit it dry it fully with a clean lint free cloth.

Where is the heater fan relay on a Volvo 1994 850?

The blower motor relay is behind the glove box. If your blower only runs on high it's the resistor and it's behind the glove box too.

Have the dealer look for soft codes and to check the connections to the starter and the battery and to check the alternator for proper charging. Volvo alternators have a circuit inside of them that when it goes bad it will cause the car to stop running without warning.

1996 volvo 850 powered down, all panel lights came on, car died, generator not charging light had been on for a month (looks like a battery), what could be problem, is it expensive,

when the generator quits the car will run until the battery is drained then it will stop. You need the constant recharging to keep running. Sounds like you will need an alternator. Seek a volvo shop and get estimates.
