Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a 1993 f150 4wd auto with a 351 w. I've replaced the tps, o2 sensor, distributor cap and rotor, plugs and wires, and several vacuum leaks. It runs better, but I'm still getting only about 8 mpg. There are more vacuum leaks and it runs really rough when I use the front tank, like it's not getting gas. The rear tank runs fine since I fixed a few of the vacuum leaks, so it must be another leak somewhere around the front tank. I don't know where else to look. Also, it dies a lot when I put it in reverse. Would that be the idle air valve? Sometimes it dies in drive, but mostly in reverse. It's getting very expensive replacing everything by trial and error. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, the 4wd doesn't work and it grinds in the front when I try to engage it. I think it's the auto locking hubs. What is the best and least expensive way to fix that?

SOURCE: 95 GMC Jimmy 4.3l W vin rough idle

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.

SOURCE: 1991 Chevy C1500 intermittent problem. Failed smog.

1991 Blazer 5.7, 142,000 miles, new plugs, air filter, PCV valve, knock sensor. Runs great, right up to when i tried to smog it. It had about 1/4 tank of fuel and about a half of bottle of smog pass, (just wanted to make sure) All was smooth until they started the vehicle to let it warm up! Then after about ten minutes it overheated. I had broke a live wire, which killed the two electric fans charged with cooling the engine. So there i sat for about a hour and half. After a simple repair the engine is now with a temp of about 205 to 210. They conduct the test. 209 hydrocarbons at low idle and 509 at high. They said the 509 is borderline but ok, the low idle hydro carbons is way out (there words). So they suggest I burp the cooling system, see a mechanic and try again. Then I had a aftemarket K

Engine Rotates (acts as it will start) won't fully turn over.

Did you replace the TPS (throttle position sensor)?? Try that if you haven't so. But if you did that already, and still getting the same problem, I would suspect the fuel pump going bad.

I'LL TRY, GOOD TO SEE SOMEONE TRY AT LEAST ! IDLE SEEMS HIGH, BACK TO BASICS !!!!!! THE AIR & FUEL FILTERS NEED REPLACED, SPARK PLUG WIRES, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! THESE ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE AIR WE BREATHE !!!!! VACUUM LEAKS, CHECK ALL VACUMM LINES, THOROUGHLY ! THIS LINE COMING OUT OF THE TRANSAXLE PORTION OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ?????????????????/ YOUR NEED TO REPLACE WHATEVER IT IS, WHAT KIND OF LINE ? METAL, RUBBER , WIRE ??? MOVING ON, GOOD YOU REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR, & IDLE AIR VALVE, & TPS, RECHECK TPS, IS IT LOOSE, ALSO TIGHTEN THROTTLEBODY BOLTS, THE ONES THAT HOLD IT DOWN. SO, CHANGE YOUR FILTERS,WIRES, ETC., MENTIONED ABOVE, CAP & ROTOR, ETC.,ETC.,.........GO FROM THERE, SEE HOW THAT WORKS

1995 Grand cherokee shakes. where can I find the sensors

First thing you need to do there is check all the vacuum lines to make sure all are attached and not cracked or broken. As far as sensors, most are on the intake manifold except the o2 on the exhaust and the temp sensor on the upper coolant inlet on the engine. What you want to do is have a parts house do a scan (most larger outlets do free scans) and buy a chilton or haynes manual to decipher the results. Manual will also give instructions on individual tests for sensors etc and instructions for R&R.
It is also a good idea to check all your spark plugs. Any that are severely worn, oil or fuel fouled etc can give you an idea about what's causing the shaking. Also check the distributor cap, rotor and wires. Old ones can cause mis or cross firing between cylinders. While you have the cap removed, push the shaft the rotor is attached to from side to side. If you find excessive play there the distributor itself may need replacement.

1993 cherokee sport afte warms up developes a miss trouble code says injector circut ive replaced computer injectors cps tps pretty much all of the sensors and did wires and plugs and rotor and cap please...

Which type of crank-sensor do you have, the type that has to be adjusted or the type that just mounts. If this sensor was installed correctly, then your most likely going tp be replacing the hall effect in the distributor and also verify that oil is not leaking on the distributor, causing a poor signal.
