Question about Ford Five Hundred

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. When I turn the key I get nothing out of it. This just started I havent had any trouble with it before. It seems to just not recognize the ignition is being turned. Everything else on the car is still functioning normally, the Battery is 12.6 volts, I haven't found any blown fuses, I tried replacing the ignition switch already but it had no effect. Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for the feedback, I am thinking it may be a shifter sensing issue however the ford five hundred one is not like the one pictured and it has a cvt transmission so it may be a little different than most other car's set up. to clarify though the key does turn, its not locked, I can take it out of the ignition as well and the problem is the same if I try using my other key for the car. The car simply does not react to the key turning, I cant turn on the accessories or anything. It is not a battery problem the battery is fine. I'm not seeing any voltage drop and hooking it up to a new battery doesnt help at all either. Has anyone experienced this with a Ford five hundred before?

I would try another battery just in case Anyway what sound do you get when turning the key If there is a sound does it click If so it must be the ignition If nothing happen try and bump start the battery if this does start than it is you ignition motor You can change it and get a reconditioned one by giving your old one back Or just go to a scrap yard that gives you a warranty of the item If this is not the problem than it is thesin central computer This can be costly and better get a new one

SOURCE: Same Problem-My 2006 GX470 won't start -Key won't turn.

Had the same issue with my wife's 2005 Lexus GX470. The issue is that the shifter is not in park (even though it seems it is). The other issue is that without the key turned, you can not move the shifter to neutral. If you look closely at the gear shift, on the left above the P (Park Symbol) there is a small rectangular box that has a **** on one side. _862.jpgTake a small screwdriver and lift the plastic cover which will reveal a button. With your foot on the brake, push the button with one hand and now you will be able to move the shifter to neutral with the other hand. Now, put it back in park and you should now be able to turn your key and start your car. Put the little piece of plastic you removed over the button and go on your way.

SOURCE: 2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Engine won't start. Dash lights flash rapidly when key turned.

the battery says 12 volts but may be dropping to 4 or 5 under a load...i would suggest jumpstarting the car and see what happens.the battery should read in the high 12 volts and not less than 9.5 under cranking. the dash lights go out on your car when starting, and the alarm will go off ,and disable the ignition if the voltage is too low in cranking the car because the computer will shut it down and activate the anti theft.....check your battery posts are tight. best of luck

If it is locked in park, it could be the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. You may be able to shift out of park before you turn the key switch to the on position.

While driving the speedometer, the brake light and the abs light comes on the speedometer stop working on my 2006 five hundred

I had this same problem with my 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The instrument gauges would all fail and go to zero for a few seconds and then come back on as if nothing happened. During this issue, the reverse lights and "idiot lights" would also come on.

Everyone told me it was bad cluster gauges, so I replaced them and it was not the problem.

There were several cracked/broken wires leading from the main computer of the vehicle to the charging system. The delearship found the broken wires and it cost me $ 190.00 to have it fixed and the car now runs great, no more failure of the gauges.
