Probably fuel related. You will need to check a few things out to narrow the problem. Take off air cleaner and spray starting fluid when cranking. If it fires off, then it will narrow it down to the fuel system. If it sounds the same, then it will be a problem with the ignition. Fuel issue: most likely a fuel pump, but start with the cheaper fixes first. 1. Fuses 2. Crash interlock switch 3. Fuel regulator/Fuel pump. 4. ECM/electrical issue. I am assuming you don't have access to a fuel pressure gauge.

Sounds like a bad connection or a bad battery cable. Are the battery cables clean and tight on both ends ?
Yes the engine should crank if the battery is charged no matter what condition the alternator is in.

Replaced alternator and battery acted like not enough juice to turn over but battery fully charged changed battery terminals now no start fire

sounds like you have left a cable off the battery terminal ,some vehicles have more than one cable on the battery terminal ,also when started take the neg battery lead off and if engine stops then its a new alternator ,if engine keeps running then the fault is the battery for a slow turn over .

There is a diode in the alternator that you fried the instant you disconnected the battery....go get a new alternator. This was an acceptable test on much older cars, but not these days......

I have a 95 jeep cherokee laredo. The battery suddenly started dying. We got a new battery. Still died. Installed new alternater and charged battery. The jeep ran for about an hour and died again. What's...

First: Are your Battery Cables (inside) and Battery Post nice and shiney? It is amazing how corroded/oxidized cables and post will kill a battery. Get then bright and shiney.
To test the Alternator. Start the Vehicle. You can Jump it if you have to. With the Engine running, disconnect the Negative Cable from the Battery. If the Engine dies, it is a bad alternator.
Was the "new" Alternator new or remanufactured?
Was it the correct alternator inespecially 'amps' for your particular vehicle?
Take the "new" alternator off and have it tested at auto parts store where you bought it.
Any remanufactured alternator may pass the factory inspection but will fail at the auto parts store. Just because it came out of a new box, and looks new, doesn't mean it works new.
Always when buying and part with a "motor" attached to it from an autoparts store, insist that the new one gets bench tested.
If this does not fix the problem:
Are your belts slipping? Worm out, loose or slipping belts will not turn the alternator pulley correctly and draw the battery dead.
Inspect the Red Positive Wire coming off the Alternator back to the battery. Look for any burnt, melted, or shorted areas.
The Battery Starts the vehicle. The Alternator runs the engine and trickle charges the battery.

Yes. There is a very good possibility that your alternator is beginning to fail. The battery only starts the car and maintains nominal accessories. The alternator on the other hand actually provides the fire/spark for the engine after it has started o keep the engine running.
The light coming on and off is indicating the alternator is failing or falling below what is needed for the engine. When this occurs the system defaults to the battery, where it drains the battery. At higher speeds/RPM's the battery light is probably turning off - right?
A very easy way to check this is to start the vehicle, and with the engine running, remove the Negative (black) Cable going to the Battery. If the engine dies, it is the alternator and needs to be replaced immediately. Once an alternator fails, it will drain and kill the battery.

My Car shut off, I found out it was the

ABS is Advanced Brake Systems, but that light should flash once when the car is turned on to signal it works.
If you turn the key in the ignition forward, like you are going to turn it on, but not far enough to turn the engine over, that light should be on at a constant. with it turning itself off upon starting.
If you have a no start issue, it would have the same effect. But if it is a no start, it's not going to be a dead battery, the battery puts out enough charge to turn the engine over (on), and the alternator runs everything.
Alternators run off the belt(s) on the engine and need exact tension, in order to produce the proper amount of power.

The odds are the alternator is the problem again. I've installed brand new alternators in the shop that turned out bad. The battery barely had enough juice the crank the car and get it running. Then, the battery was the only thing keeping the engine running with the spark plug until the battery drain completely dead.

If the alternator was working normally, the alternator would have kept the energy up and keep the spark plugs going without the battery's help.

Basically, the battery's job is to start the engine only and the alternator's job is to keep the battery charged and supply energy for the car's needs.

2001 chevy silverado 1500 v8 battery drain after sits for 1or2day

, do a simple test on the charging system...check battery voltage. should be 12v or better. start engine & check volts at idle, no accessories on. volts should read 13.5 -14v. Turn on all accessories(including headlamps on high) volts should drop slightly but should not creep down. Definitely not below 12.5. If voltage drops lower than 12.5, the regulator (in the alternator) is not working. either change regulator or change entire alternator. Alternator drive belt should have sufficient tension so that alternator cannot be turned easily by hand. If it can, check belt tensioner.

How do I uninstall and install an alternator on a '93 thunderbird??

ericka1 hold up on the alternator! You have a new battery in the car, now what's going on? When u turn the key on, does your engine turn over (crank)? The alternator charges the battery when the car is running, if u have a new battery in the car, it should start, even if the alternator is bad. The alternator would cause the battery to lose it's charge if it is bad. So, 1st thing to check (if car won't start), is there spark at the spark plugs, and is fuel getting to the spark plugs. You must have both for the car to start and run. Check that out 1st, and provide info, we can take it from there.
