It depends on the vehicle if it is older and has a carburetor it will come off the carburetor or the intake the carburetor sits on.Best way is to trace the hose from the transmission to see exactly where it goes.

Yeah Brother, those old square bodies are still neat. I have a '74 I put on a 4x4 chassis and 6.2 diesel w/overdrive automatic(700R4). Most likely you have a TH350 turbo trans and on the side front is a vacuum actuated can that operates the shift of the tranny. Any vacuum line connected to the carb or intake manifold will supply vacuum to it. It's originally a steel line with rubber connector tubes on the ends. Check the tranny fluid after warm up, in park, and be sure it has enough fluid in it. Luck Bro.

I removed the battery box to replace a vacuum hose that goes to the cruse control and there is another hose that goes toward the head lights that is also split but i can't find what it attaches to ! HELP...

First start the truck up and see if their is vaccum on that line, if it does their is a sticker under
the hood that has a vaccum diagram follow it to find where the line goes ,if their is no vaccum to line then does the truck have head light washers it also could goto you main washers to the windshield push the washer button and see if it leakes washer fluid.

Air will only come out of defroster

check for a vaccum leak under the hood.there is a vaccum line that goes under the battery to the vaccum check ball that battery acid melts the vaccum line.i would check there and see if it is your problem.

Would like a diagram of the vaccum hose lines to the tranfer case

there are 3 lines on the transfer. one is a vent that t's to the vent of the transmission. one goes to the vacuum bottle. and the other goes to the actuating bladder on the right fender by battery. the switch is actuated when you select a 4wd position and then the vacuum actuates the front axle. very simple setup.

4wd service light is on and my 4wd is not working

probably the vaccum solinoid mounted behind engine on firewall. disconect the two hoses and splice them together. if the 4wd starts working replace the solnoid. if this dose not work try the switch on transmission
