Question about 1993 GMC Sierra K1500

2 Answers

I have a 1999 GMC Suburban 1500 that started having front end popping/clicking yesterday. Tonight went to back into my parking spot, pulled forward to adjust and it did not move? I can only pull it forward and backwards about 5 ft? Not sure what causes it? There is a little red fluid on the left front frame. Can it be the CV?

Not CV. Red means transmission fluid. On front frame probably means you have a transmission cooler which is a smaller separate radiator that keeps the transmission fluid cool. That's probably where the leak is or the line leading to it. Check your transmission fluid (it has a dipstick) and make sure it shows at the proper level on that dipstick. Add transmission fluid by pouring into same tube dipstick is in. Drive to nearest shop and repair leak.

Testimonial: "No my transmission is not leaking. There was a little saturation on the frame, it looks like on the end of the CV joint also. I am more concerned my truck is getting locked up rollng back and forth only 5ft?"

SOURCE: 1999 GMC Suburban 2500: There is a grinding sound

Sounds like the truck is in 4 wheel drive, try turning the front driveshaft, it should turn freely if it is in 2wd otherwise you may have transfercase problem or your front diff is locked in

unfortunately what it sounds like is the transfer case like you suspect. inside are bearings and gears and a chain what happens is the chain will stretch and cause this problem it will actually jump the teeth on the gears, you will need to have the chain replaced in the transfer case. sorry to have to tell you this but i hope it helps.

99 suburban front diff diagram spring came off plunger front end stays locked in in less i take accuator out and put magnet in and pull plunger back out

If you look at this picture, exploded view of front diff , It looks like #16 or #13 could be missing or broken, causing the plunger not to pull out keeping the front end engaged. Looks like it would have to be opened up to replace.

Soounds like the shop that did the work did not install the shift cable back onto the transmission fullky and it popped off. Look under the truck, drivers side, and you may see a cable dangling. If so that needs to be reconnected to the post on the transmission shift selector on the transmission.it should pop on with a solid push.

Key is on....battery is good....engine won't turn over

Black box (plastic) usually pretty handy to battery, you should see red (usually) cable from battery running to it. Another thing that came to mind, you don't have anti-theft system on that do you? Sometimes they will cause problems after a dead battery. Try using your key & valet key to unlock the doors, manually especially drivers.

Check the wires on starter solenoid to make sure they are in the right spot. Sounds like the ignition wire terminal on the solenoid is getting constant power. I hope this helps!
