Where is the map sensor located on a 2000 hyundai elantra


The MAP sensor on a 2000 Hyundai Elantra will be located directly on top of the intake manifold, 3-4 inches to the left of the throttle body (facing the engine), and attached by two 10mm bolts. However, some 2000 models may not have a MAP sensor, since it was added midway through the production year to prep for the updated 2001 elantra.

Look under the dash on the left side. You'll see the ECM (computer) under there. Right above the ECM, in fact hooked to it, is a plastic module that will have about 4 relays in it. Code p1613 on a 1998 hyundai elantra means what


P1613 trouble code. When you start the engine, the TCM (transmission control module) sends a test signal along the wire to the ECM (engine control module) it uses to request the check engine lamp. P1613 indicates that the test signal voltage is more than 120% of battery voltage.

I'd recommend clearing the code to see if it comes back. It's possible this was a one-time error. If it does come back, it'll be very difficult to diagnose. The problems could be:
1. Improper signal from TCM (defective TCM)
2. Improper signal measurement in ECM (defective ECM)
3. Irregular feedback from an actuator that causes bleed-over into this signal circuit in either the ECM or TCM.

The last case of this I recall was a defective TCM

Passenger compartment relay box next the ECM
you will see 5 relay
2 to the left & 1 in the middle & 2 to the right

The one in the middle is the fuel pump relay

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra with 250,000 miles. When I pull up to a stop sign, I get a jerk from the transmission and also when I pull away. Could this be some kind of sensor with the ABS or is it even...


At any moment, did the Check Engine light come ON? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. The possible causes for the problem you describe are many. My experience makes me suspect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), especially if there are no DTC's. The TPSensor (sofisticated rheostat) is a duo-circuit potentiometer wiich has developed (or is developing) bad spots resulting in erratic voltage signals being sent to the ECM. These voltage signals are used by the ECM to calculate 'LOAD' and is also used by the TCM (Trasmission Control Module) to know when to upshift/downshift.
These bad spots can be verified/detected using an Analog Ohm Meter
