That points to a damaged IDLE SPEED CONTROL or "AIS"...

Sometimes it gets fixed by removing and cleaning with carburetor solvent. Check electrical connector first. A large vacuum leak can be the problem too. Amclaussen.

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Stratus A/C Fan Relay Switch

ok first the fan relay should be located inside the elecrical box. this is usually located on the drivers side under the hood. next even you have only one speed when you turn the switch it's because the reostat is bad it is located in the fan motor housing. hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1996 dodge stratus high idle?

hi, the idle on a car can be changed by a couple of things... usualy the one that will cause high idle before anything else will be if there is a air leak lettting air into the intake anywhere after the airflow sensor, this is because the sensor cannot read the amount of air entering the engine so it cannot compensate... the easiest way to test this is first to lissen for hissing etc and if there is some noise you can spray a bit of 'easy start' in the general area and it will be sucked in with the air and the car will idle differently again.. be carefull with the easy start it can be dangerous with the engine running, a mechanic will usualy have a machine that senses air leaks

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) that idles rough (almost stalls out), dies on start up and recently had a flashing engine light (backfire error). Any suggestions? No other issues, water pump and timing...

Could be the idle air control, once these start hanging up inside, they can cause as variety of problems with idle speed (can become wildly random) or simply a failure to idle at all.

These links should help:
Where is the idle air control valve located on 2004 Dodge Stratus

This could also be caused by a failing ignition pack.

2000 dodge stratus. Heater only works at idle, when driving at high speeds, heater blows cold and thermostat gauge goes to cold. Back flushed heater core, new thermostat any ideas?

I'd say you have a faulty thermostat, be it new or not. If your temperature gauge goes to cold as your engine is taking you down the highway, the thermostat is not doing its job. The temperature should never come down to below normal until engine is shut off...

Go to your local shucks or auto zone and they can check any codes behind your check engine light and it's free. It sounds like one of two things a O2 sensor or your mass airflow sensor but they will tell you for sure
