SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Keyless Entry/Security System

Your keyless/security system may have been damaged by the spikes. But, assuming you've already checked all the fuses, I would start by having the alternator tested. I would also check the alternator wire connection to the power distribution center (pdc). It can loosen and cause different problems.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: my dodge ram 1500 does not have a security system

Later models have a chip in the ignition key that the computer validates is is correct before allowing to start. Verify that this is the same key you have always used or the orginal 2nd key that came with truck. If you had a new key made it is either not programmed yet to the truck (see a dealer) or is not the correct type key. A key made say at a hardware store willl not have the internal chip but can be used to just unlock the door but do not put in ignition. If an invalid key is used to try and start more than 3 times then the computer will 'lock down" and then there is a procedure to for that if you need it let me know.

2000 Dodge Ram Van 1500 Overheats with A/C on

Condenser & Radiator could be very dirty on the outside,
as well as have leaves, feathers, etc between them
The radiator may just need to be replaced, as it is old &
clogged inside
The thermostat may need replacing
Exhaust Converter is surely worn out & partially blocked,
as they only last 12 to 14 years
Spark Plugs,if in there over 3 years, check for cylinder
misfires & fuel trim data
A/C System Overcharged or Air in there, from trying to
add to a leaking system

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.
