Question about Cars & Trucks
I have a 1995 chevy pickup 350 with a three speed automatic at an idle or in neutral the engine lopes in gear it idles good but tries to take off in 3 gear if I shift to 1st gear and the to 2nd gear it stays in 1st. seams like all I got is 1st and 2nd gear
This is as simple as adjusting the selector linkage, ensure that once it is done that there is a locking nut or lock thread preventing it becoming loose again. Good luck.

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use
carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC
chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is
running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the
speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and
blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the
negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control.
Below is a picture of the switch I mentioned.
