My jeep shifts hard when it goes into overdrive why ?

Really need more information for your problem, but without that I can suggest you add a can of transmedic to the trans. oil, then after 1k miles, change the trans. fluid and filter using a very good quality trans fluid.

98 jeep grand cherokee front diff loosing fluid thru vent hose and overheating

sounds like you have blown the internal heater matrix and the thermostat is not working or is blocked. you are going to need a new matrix and thermostat and a bloody good flush out of the system just in case there is something in the system means taking off the rad hoses flush them out from both ends. and doing the same to the engine. replacing the matrix as its not going to be able to fix it if its shooting water out of the vents change the thermostat check pipes for damage.

Drain fluid into a clean plastic bowl, check for brass cuttings or metal shavings in sunlight. If present get complete trans overhaul.

I have over 100,000 miles on my 2002 Jeep. I bought the jeep from a friend. The jeep gran cherokee is in excellent condition and very well taken care of. Question I want to get the transmission fluid...

Some people have complained that after flushing the trans, it failed. But I believe they waited until the trans was acting up and then had it done. Also, a flush is when they hook up a pump and use 5 gallons of new fluid to push out the old. Transmissions have a filter in them that is not replaced this way, and I wonder if that has something to do with it. I have always dropped the pan, changed the filter and gasket, cleaned off the magnet in the pan (another area a flush does not get) and then refilled with new fluid. You may have some old fluid left over, but 90% new is better than 100% old, and you get rid of the dirty filter.

I have a code p1762 for my 97 jeep grand cherokee

Trouble code P1762 means: Governor pressure sensor offset improper voltage. Gov. Pressure Sensor. It is located in the valve body of the transmission and requires dropping the transmission pan to replace. Sounds much more difficult than it is. Since you have to change your fluid it's a good idea to change the trans. filter .

The tranny well not engage in drive or reverce

i hate to say it but it's usually the little things we overlook. back to basics. make sure the trans fluid level is correct and check to see the condition. make sure it doesnt smell burned and that it's a nice clear red color. did you flush the trans cooler lines out? the bad fluid from the old trans may have contaminated the new trans. then make sure the linkage is correctly adjusted. otherwise, it seems like you may have gotten a bad transmission.

98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Stuck in 1st gear!

I would drop the trans pan and change fluid & filter. If you find an extreme amount of debris in pan, filter may have become partially plugged, which can lower internal pressure. Only problem is that if there is enough debris to plug up filter, it indicates wear inside unit, which a fluid change will not correct (no chemical will) But, if problem becomes somewhat better after oil change, an additive such as Lucas conditioner may prolong useful life somewhat.Otherwise, have unit rebuilt.
good luck
